Red face Engine Oil Help (Capacity)...

on my mom's 02 toyota corolla she uses for work, in the manuel for engine oil it says exactly this (same format, etc). i don't know how many quarts of oil it takes....

exactly as shown in the manuel:

Oil capacity (drain and refill),
L (qt., Imp. qt.):
With Filter 3.7 (3.9, 3.3)
Without Filter 3.5 (3.7, 3.1)

Dude, you just wrote the answer yourself. It's 3.9 qts w/filter and 3.7qts w/o filter.

And for your 335i, it's a tad under 7 qts - synthetic oil.

this is the confusing part, the 3.7 is in Liters the 3.9 is in qt? than what is the imp. qt. and 3.3?

The first figure, (3.7) is measured in litre, hence the "L". The second (3.9) is in US quarts. The third (3.3) is in imperial quarts. An imperial quart is 38.43 fluid ounces whilst a US quart is only 32 fluid ounces. Since there are more ounces in the imperial quart, it takes fewer of them to fill the sump. Likewise with the litre. It has more ounces than a US quart so takes fewer for the same volume. Imperial units are not used in the United States.
