Sorry to thread jack...but it's on a related note..I was wondering about the safety and security of programming your home address on your navigation. Are you guys afraid if someone steals your vehicle, that they can figure out where you live and possibly use your homelink to get into your home? (that's what i've been hesitant to program a home, especially if you live in a single family home and not a huge apartment complex where it may be more difficult)

1. 94.5 FM (a local radio station that I like to be able to access quickly in the mornings)
2. Presets (a mix of FM and Sirius) 3. USB 4. Sirius 5. Music Collection 6. Can't recall at the moment As you can see, I use the buttons mostly for entertainment choices because that's what I need. Much easier than using steering wheel or console buttons.

You shouldn't program your home address. Program a nearby intersection or some kind of landmark. Of course your registration may also contain your address, which is why it might be a good idea to keep that hidden away somewhere besides the glove compartment.

good points on not programming home address. I'm removing mine tomorrow.
Here's what I have right now: 1. Home phone 2. Home nav 3. Work nav (though I'm gonna change this one since it's not really useful) 4. Split screen with entertainment on right 5. Split screen with top view / north facing map on right 6. Toggle split screen on/off

1. SAT presets
2. Home Nav (intersection a block away... because it doesn't recognize my street ) 3. USB 4. Home phone 5. Wife phone 6. CD Few comments. You can add a password to home nav, I believe. But it defeats the purpose; you need registration and insurance IN THE CAR anyway, so if somebody steals your car, they can just punch the address if they wanted to get to your house, no ? I'm not a drug dealer, so I'm not worried about that . Hey, have you noticed you can't just make the damn nav map show on '08s without punching an address??? What a PITA. Will probably try to store the nav map with route canceled. The other day tried to bring the freaking map to check a street, and for the life of me couldn't do it until decided to hit the 'home nav' button, cancel the route and look for that street. I have 3 different navs, and don't use any of them much, so it's a PITA to remember the quirks of all 3 . The BMW is the least intuitive by far, especially when you don't know what the hell each symbol on the left means (meaning should be spelled out at the bottom of the screen IMO). Oh well. At least it works . |

Since I am the only one who drives the M3, I keep the registration and insurance card in my wallet. I don't have anything in the car that has my name or address on it.

I don't do this, but I've known others who keep a copy (which is by the way legal in california) in their wallet and keep originals at home. Just trying to eliminate the easy ways to have someone get to my home.
