I mean BMC. Stupid phone and autocorrect!

I've had the AA Performance Green Filter in my car since last summer. As mentioned before they are top quality, perfect fit and improves airflow over factory. You can get the Green Filter cleaning kits cheaper online without having to go through AA. I'd say they are a comparable alternative to the K&N filters.

I have the K&N filter. Cool resonation at 3k-4k RPM under heavy throttle. The sound alone is worth the money. Any HP gains is a bonus.

Any oiled type filter will be an improvement over the stock paper type.

Many Macht Schnell filter-equipped M3s are on the forum, feel free to drop by and join them since we're local.

I would have gone with K&N if I did not go with Dinan intake.

I have been a long time user of K&N air filters in various vehicles. I am not convinced that there is much of an HP gain. I like being able to clean and re-use the filter (save a tree!!). And, I avoid the situation that the filter I need is not on the shelf when I need it.

I had a dry AEM CAI in my Evo way back when and absolutely loved that thing. The only maintenence was a good shaking and maybe a bit of air hose.

I recently installed a bmc filter, pretty expensive and noticed throttle was
More smooth at high rpms (psychological perhaps).

Do you guys run your filters with or without the airbox/cover? Bc i couldnt notice a sound difference.

This is a very interesting question actually. I was looking at my current (stock?) filter and was thinking... holy smokes! It's like running a marathon while breathing through a straw with how thick that thing is!!! Poor car!

Here's a pic...

So looking at the airbox setup, it appears to take in air from the vent in the hood. That's a pretty small opening if you think about it. The benefit is that it's taking in cooler air than is found under the hood. Most "cold" air intakes are simply high flow filters under the hood but it's not really taking in any cold air at all since it's under the hood. They should call these "hot" air intakes lol.

Anyway, I probably wouldn't run it without the airbox cover in an effort to take in cooler air from the vent even though it's a restricted opening.

I'd be interested in others views on this as well.

It has another huge intake on the lower side of the bumper...you can stick your hand in there and feel it go right into the airbox....or take the filter out and see the outlet from the bumper. Best OEM intake I've ever seen. There is a diagram somewhere floating around showing all the airflow into the box...

Opening the box will lead to higher IATs, pulled timing, and less HP : )

I guess I hadn't noticed the other openings. I definitely wouldn't run without the top cover for the very reasons you stated here.

I have since purchased a K&N filter which I intend to use along with the Dinan intake.

If I'm not mistaken, Dinan uses a K&N filter in their intake.

This is what I got: (was informed by Dinan rep that it was disposable)
