$215 is the lowest cost I can get from my indy shop, dealer wants $320 for an oil change.

I believe manual says to do spark plugs at 37k miles. The prices for diff. fluid change and spark plugs are almost identical to the quoted prices I received in Canada. I'm in a similar situation, did the diff fluid this week but will wait a bit longer on the plugs. Of course, I learnt the US 4 - 50k bumper to bumper warranty 'transfers' to Canada, but the maintenance part of the US warranty does not transfer to Canada (I just moved north). I figured I'd snoop around town to find a better option than the dealer & the $580 spark plug change.

Sounds expensive. How difficult is it to get at the plugs yourself?

There is a good spark plug change DIY in the DIY forum. Getting the coils off is kind of a PITA but doable with the right tools and some patience. Not something you ought to do if you aren't comfortable...

+1. Should only take about 20 min on autologic.

If the car has never been updated before, then definitely update it. Mine was updated in 2010 and the latest update which came out around Christmas I think did change the feel of the car.

DO you know what version of the software you have upgraded to? I think I need it for the DCT.

Plugs

Yeah they did my plugs on my 09 at 50k kilometers (Canadian) at the time I thought it was early for plugs to but I now have 55k kms. I'm gonna inquire about software while its still under warranty. Lol

How do you know if you need the update? I just picked up a '08 E90 M3 last week from the dealer. It was just out of warranty (by like 1 week). I can't seem to find any info on the M3 what version of SW it is running...

Yes. Dealer can do a key read. They may only be able to tell you whether an update is available, rather than which specific version number you currently have, at least in terms of the whole 231E, 240E reckoning. However, armed with the integration level they'll provide, you can find out roughly where you're at by searching on this and other forums. Good luck!

Not all shops update the software to 240e prior to doing a custom tune.
I like your business ethics..

Actually, most tuners do. ESS and VF are definately two of them.

This $125 install price was at the dealer?

I asked my SA about the software version and he is not telling me.

Is there other way to know the software version?

Thanks!

If you're local to us in Anaheim, drop by and I can let you know on the spot.

Agreed. I use an independent Porsche race shop if I don't feel like doing it myself. 40 bucks + oil and filter

On the inspection report, under Software Integration, it says that I have Integration plant

E89x-08-03-530

Is this the correct SW reference to look at? I asked how much to upgrade my SW...315$!!!! Wow.
