HD Cameras

I'm looking at
1. GoPro Hero
2. Contour HD 1080
3. Drift Hd 170

The biggest advantage of Drift is the LCD screen to ensure the camera is pointing correctly. The wide angle lens makes options 1 & 2 pretty easy to aim but not able to be sure without LCD.

Wind noise is an issue with all of them!

Any comments?
GoPro is definitely the lowest cost unit ~$240 and Drift the highest ~349.

Thanks

how about creative vado or zi8 for less than 80USD. they both shoot in 720p and best of all you can buy cheap wide angle adapters and attach ext mic. my setup is creative vado (70usd), cruisecam (50usd or so), wide angle adapter (5-10bucks if you get it from china) and stereo mic (5usd if u get it from china) ext mic is located next to my air intake for awesome sound

A think a search will show several threads about differences and preferences with these cameras.

Personally, I prefer Contour over Go-Pro due to less severe fish-eye, but then again, I have an older GoPro, so I don't know if this can be adjusted in the newer ones with software.

The battery life on the go pro is awful. 1 hour per set and you need to use rechargeable. The interface also sucks but I like the video quality and the mounting options. I run 3 of these on my lemons car and have a shit ton of batteries.

GoPro just release the bacpac, a little LCD screen that attaches to the back of the GoPro HD. I also like the GoPro for mounting flexibility. Haven't tried the others so I can't comment.

I have 1 and 2. I vote for 2. But remember to buy another battery just in case.

You should do a search for this topic, all your questions will be answered. But real quick, I had #1 and #3 and did not like them for different reasons. I ended up going with the Race Optics HD camera and I'm very happy. Also used the carbon fiber headrest mount by AMT, it is awesome. http://www.amt-engineering.com/

I was thinking about something like this last night! The roll bar mount of the GoPro works with this?

Here are some videos that I took w/ two HD cameras:

Go Pro HD (I love the flexibility in mounting locations. You don't learn much other than where the track goes from this video, but it is cool)

Sony HDR-100 (I use an I/O Port Mount on the Roll Cage of my E46. Great quality, but it costs more than the Go-Pro. I have a wide angle lens on here, and this year it'll be hooked up to my Traqmate for data overlay)
