Just wondering if any one is going to Watkins in September for the driving school. I'll be there for my first track event and in the M3 and my wife will be there in the 335. Anyone else going or have any tips?

You're picking a legendary track for your first experience--nice job! Is your wife driving as well in the 335i? If so, good for her.

I was just there earlier this month for my third time. I absolutely love the place. Totally worth the 5-hour drive.

Enjoy it, relax, check your ego at the door, listen to your instructor, and have a great time. You'll soon find yourself planning time away from the hospital to coordinate with track events.

I have really looking forward to this experience- I planned my vacation once the CCA came out with thier schedule. Honestly the driving school is why I wanted an M3 so bad that way I could enjoy the tract even more. My wife is looking forward to this even more than I am (and yes she has our 335 - but next driving school I get the 335 and she gets the M)

I will be there on the 22 and 23. Based on the people on this thread so far, wondering i if I will be out place without a medical degree

I'm really excited for it. It will be my third track event. At my 1st event, it was nice to meet people from this forum (paradocs and others) and I look forward to meeting some more of you at this one.

Will be there.
No medical degree, but in the medical business.

What, didn't they tell you that was a requirement to attend this event.
It's in the small print somewhere....

You will love being on the track, it is were the M3 shines.....
It takes a couple of sessions to get used to the speed that you
are driving at as a first time beginner, but once you do, it is awesome

A nice guide to the track that I stole from Gearhead999

COMSCC-WatkinsGlen.pdf

For all the what's wrong pictures, they want you to use all the track, including running out on to the turtles ( rumble strips) at Watkins Glen.
The Club racers go completely over many of them. The hardest one to use is the trackout turtles at turn 9 as the guard rail is only 18" further out

One of the practice session games the GVC uses is to have students ( at 6/10's speed) run completely over all the apex and trackout turtles to get a feel for doing it. Another is going through most of the turns ( not the bus stop or the esses) with 2 cars side by side ( again at 6/10's and they they don't let you do it during the normal sessions). They do encourage late corner passing and also have a game to practice passing in corners. The GVC is a good club to learn at.

Good to see you again Art. e92doc: I'm pretty sure I saw your car and the 335 (both in my group) but I did not get the chance to meet you. What a great track...lots of fun. I'm sure I'll see some of you again soon.

Whats up doc, was great to meet you and your wife at the event. I think this is your car in this pic with mine.
Was a great weekend despite the wetness on Saturday. I wish I could do the porsche cca next week, but I am running a new branch starting this week so the timing is poor.

There's always next year/
Take care
