I'm sure the "life with a kid" is great for many, but not for all.
I'm living proof that you can still do all that with a kid. I'm lacking pickles though.

I've been leaving work an hour early just so I can go to the gym before it gets too late. Last night I had to stop by the house to pick up a gym towel and saw that my daughter was still up. So I tuck her into bed and she asked me if I could read her a bedtime story every night . I told her yeah of course we can start tomorrow. Even though I had just downed my pre workout drink and it just kicked in , I stayed with her. Next time I'm just gonna leave my crap in the car and go straight to the gym.

It's an analogy, and you got it. I think a lot of people do things without thinking about why because that's just how you're expected to do things in a culture. They just go with the flow

Of course, a culture that was entirely anti-baby would quickly cease to exist, but that does not prevent me as an individual from stepping back and asking why people believe what they believe. I think most haven't thought things through...they just adopt the beliefs their culture indoctrinates them with (religion is a good example)

"I could care less" is a mistake that's propogated by something very much like this cultural inertia. People say it because they've heard it, so they parrot it back without considering the actual meaning of the words

People like pie because it tastes good. It tastes good because we're evolved to seek out calories, as they're historically in short supply, so we consume them when they're available. My desire for sex is far stronger than this, but my desire for kids doesn't even land between pie and sex. Is that abnormal, or did you guys have this burning desire for kids? Evolutionarily it should be there, but I think I just have a desire for sex. Perhaps tens of thousands if years ago when humans existed in their more primal nature I would've been some seductive baby daddy while someone who just loved kids would do the raising and that is the strategy programmed into my genes :P

An interesting aside is that in our culture of abundant calories, we find thinner women to be the most healthy and therefore attractive. It is a sign of youth, but I imagine historically, finding a few extra pounds sexy was your best bet at gene propagation.

I'd actually prefer reading bedtime stories to my boy than hitting the gym. The ultimate excuse lol. You got it good my friend. Can't wait to have a daughter too.

5? That explains it then.

Wait another 10 years or so, and you'll find the timeframe that she wants your wife to die in, may shrink considerably.

I've noticed that the grief/satisfaction that parents seem to report from parenthood has a great deal to do with whether the kids have reached the joyful teenage years yet. Hmmm..... I'm sure that's just a random coincidence.

Dont have to go that far back historically, just look at A-list celebrities from the 1920's - 1960's. Women were substantially curvier than today. Marilyn Monroe would be considered fat nowadays. Kate Moss would not be considered sexy back then, she'd be considered unhealthy.

oh, believe me when I tell you this, I already bet my wife that Maricela would be the young tender age of 10 the first time she takes a swing at my wife......

yes, I strongly believe my wife and my daughter will get into an all out brawl by the time my daughter is 10....

Well, good for you for being realistic about it.

Most of my friends my age have kids that are well into the teens now. Long past the stage of happily reading bedtime stories to the daughter who still idolizes you, which appears to be where many posters on this board are.

A decade ago, many of my friends were in denial that the rainbows and butterflies stage would come to an end, they used to sound like many people who have posted here.

Now, many are deep into a different stage. The "why does my daughter only have 1-syllable answers to my questions (except when she screams that she hates me), why is she still out at 1am on a school night, why does her room smell like skunk, why does her boyfriend have 3 lip piercings and a forehead tattoo that's not even spelled correctly ?" stage.

#goodtimes

At least if you expect that to happen, maybe you'll be less unhappy or disillusioned when it does. Good Luck.

Actually looking forward to that... Gotta take the bad with the good or else where's the fun at? Would you truly be happy if you only got pars playing golf? I'd much prefer to sprinkle in some double pars with some birdies and an occasional eagle. #C'estlavie

yeah he was born in October so he started school late and he's not a very smart kid. i'll be happy if he graduates and want to go to community college. I'm sorry he was on the JV team last year .He just started workouts last month and he'll be on the varsity team next year. There are times I feel that he wants to throw down but he knows better. But just in case , I've been hitting the gym every day.

Even if it was true, I'd have a hard time telling people my son isn't very smart.

No offense but an underachieving son whom you fear may physically attack you is not exactly selling the case for having kids.

But it's a truth that any parent may face. At least he's an honest parent. Although i think you're probably right with the term underachieving rather than not smart.

i try not to brag about my kids. Every time I praise them , I would get a call from the school the next day. Is this the father of so and so? Could you please come pick him up from school, he'll be waiting for you in the principals office.
