Smile BMW 1M HPDE NASA Group 1 - Nola Motorsports in New Orleans

Hey guys, took a vid with a go pro from my most recent track venture at Nola motorsports in New Orleans.

This was my 5th day on any track and 4th in my 1m, first time driving this track. I am still very much a rookie and am learning. I have some ideas on what I can see needs improvement, but would love suggestions from y'all so i will hold off on posting what i think i did wrong and see what yall think!

Feel free to make fun of my lame conversations with my instructor

Best lap was the second to last and last laps, 2:09.09 and 2:10.2. Without traffic lap times were consistent in 2:09-2:11 range.

Car had street tires and stock pads.

Thanks!

Edit : notice I am a little afraid of getting too close to the cars in front of me even if I am faster than them. There were a lot of people going 4 wheels off, so I was cautious. And not sure why i cant get this vid to embed...fail

the guy in the sentra r was pretty quick actually lol, he was good in the corners

yea, this was the beginner run group. i dont have much track experience, and neither do a lot of those guys. the mustang was annoyed by me continually passing him so i think his bad lines were because he saw me in his mirrors lol

sentra R has 500whp. watch out!

yeah but the Mustang, was either staring at the mirrors I agree or trying to go faster to not let you pass ultimately just plowing through every turn! its fun to watch from behind though sometimes.

Good job! Any plans on coming back to Nola motorsports?

A friend and I got two deals for HPDE there. He has a mustang and I have an E93. We are trying to get more people involved and then decide a date to go.

PS. Are you going to the GCA meet?

haha, the lightweight of the sentra definitely helped him carry some good speed in the corners when his lines were good. he was a much more experienced driver than me and seemed to be getting a lot out of his car

it was amazing how quick the mustang was despite his sloppy driving. capable car.

Looked pretty good.

The only comment is you have to set up the pass and close the gap. Usually I will close the gap and try to get into their driver's side view mirror to make sure they can see me...presenting myself. Then back off and get a run on the car in front in the turn before the next passing zone. No sense in crowding the guy in between passing zones...you can't pass so there's no gain in staying close.

That will give you more time to get back on line and make the next turn less dangerous. The most dangerous turn is the next one after a pass...

thanks, that's a really good point.

I was always a little unsure of how to set up a pass, especially with a bunch of inexperienced drivers on the track (myself included!).

thanks for taking a look, and glad my driving didn't look too bad!

Man, that is one big, flat track. I've never been there. Looks like a good place for a turbo, and stock brakes. Time for speed to build and time for brakes to chill.

Your instructor is nice to you. In Novice ours make us drive close to each other, so we stop following each other's lines and get over our nerves. They authorize all point-bys. By the fourth session of the day, my adrenaline circuit is fried, fried, fried.

Nice car, BTW. Wish I had one to go with my M3.

thanks, yes it is long and flat. It was really fun though, I had a great time at the event, and the facilities were top notch

it is definitely easy to just be mindless and follow the other drivers lines haha, that's for sure

I am definitely getting more comfortable out on the track with each day out there, its really been a great experience so far.

ive got another event this weekend, will be videoing that as well
