My DCT M3
This is kind of a rant. I got her Friday the 13th in June I guess that makes it a month or so since Ive had her. She was fun to drive pre break in but when i broke her in that's when the s!@t hit the fan. I honestly thought when i got my m3 that my dealer would have everything they needed for my service and would do it right.
Lets just say i don't want another BMW again. I picked her up from her service and they handed me the keys and said your service is done and everything is fine. I trusted um, drove off, got home and read the service paper it said smg transmission not serviced. Why didn't they tell me? I don't know i figure they forgot. So i call my dealer they said that we don't have the right fluid in stock What makes me angry is that i asked them before hand if they had the right transmission fluid in stock and that they shouldn't put the wrong 1 in. Which i'm guessing they lied to me because they said they had serviced a dct car before and had the right fluid in. Yet when i called they said i was there first dct car they serviced Ok so a week passed and i was around my dealer. I called them and they told me they got this notice from BMW that said that new cars with dct have got what ever fluid in them that's life long and doesn't need to be replaced at service. Im sure most of you have read that on the forums. Then i asked if my car had the fluid and he said yes your cars build date falls under the notice. I didn't check if it did or not i just took his word. Then i notice my car doesn't have modes s6 or s7 and i had it serviced. So i ask him why doesn't my car let me go into modes s6 and 7? He said i don't know ill have someone take a look at it. 30 minutes later he comes back and says everything's fine and i asked are you sure i'm able to get into s6 and s7? With a smile he says yes. ...To my surprise no i couldn't. I confronted him about it and he told me that they were able to get it when they started driving... Right then i knew he knew absolutely nothing about dct! Neither did anyone who worked on my car that day. He had thought i meant 6th and 7th gear... So i explained to him the different modes and he explained it to his service guy. They said most likely you cant get into these modes because your in the US... No that honestly cant be it i said. We argued about that for a good 5 minutes . So i left and asked him to please find a way to get me into s6 and s7 soon. So here i am not to pleased with BMW. I'm still enjoying my car love her to death. I thought id share the story with you guys since i haven't posted anything since i got my car. Ill have pictures up later of the family stable with my new M3 in it

You need to have DSC completely off to enable S6. There is no S7 mode. And yes, the DCT transmission fluid should be lifetime. No need to change it during service. In fact, people who have had it changed end up having transmission problems.

Seems you need to read the manual my friend (I don't rely on my dealer for any info, don't trust them that much). You still have things to learn about your DCT tranny. Good luck and enjoy your car!

Actually from your post it sounds like you know nothing about your own car. Yes the dealer should probably know more and should be able to explain things to you, but uh ... did you read anything on DCT? S7? You wanted a transmission fluid change? No more BMW forever? Oooooooooooooooooooooooo k.

Sell your car immediately to someone who knows something about cars, RTFM. But at least you know about adding smilees for emphasis, good job!

if you turn off the DSC then S6 will be enabled.....there is no S7, or D7 either....S6 is the highest setting possible.....which is Launch Control...
Your dealer is right NOT to change the fluid....it is lifetime fluid..... As others have mentioned try throughly reading the manual and this forum....it will answer ALL of your questions..... I wouldn't so harshly judge your dealer..it sounds like they haven't done anything wrong....

Correct...but you must have the DSC off to get S6 at all.....as soon as the DSC turns on the option of S6 disappears

Then his sig says, "Im loven her every second", BWAHAHAHAHAA...
I do agree with him on one thing though, and that is I would have the fluid replaced. You will have to pay for it though, it won't be covered by BMW service. And I would only do it on a car I am buying, not leasing. There is no such thing as "lifetime fluid". I can guarantee that tranny fluid is full of metallic slivers just like it would be in any other car when the tranny or engine (or diff) is breaking in. It's only "lifetime" because BMW is paying for it now. Yeah, I got it, there have been advances in lubricants since the mid-90's which do not necessitate oil changes every 3k and the like. But that does not change the fact that during break in your engine/tranny/diff are full of metal particles. Changing the fluid is not going to cause problems, unless it is done improperly. If the dealer does it and there are any problems it would be covered under warranty anyway. It's funny how there was no such thing as lifetime fluid of any kind before BMW came out with their "Ultimate Service" and started paying for it themselves. That tranny fluid is about as "Lifetime" as your engine oil lasting 15k-17k miles. If you believe that...hey, it's your (or BMW's if you're leasing) car. Bottom line, when I get mine, whatever fluids don't get replaced under the service agreement, I will pay out of pocket and have the dealer put fresh stuff in.
