Paint Problems

So I have to ask everyone. . . .

This is my 2nd E92 M3 in the past 2 months. Both ordered brand new from Germany.

My issue:

When I was watching my first car get unwrapped of all the packaging plastic that comes on it for shipping I noticed a mark on the hood. This threw a red flag up so I told the body shop to note that on the delivery report and the driver signed that he noticed it as well.

The mark appeared to be dust / dirt under the clear but above the paint.

After having the car for less than a week and waxing it 2 times, I noticed more and more spots of the same kind on various parts of the car. I called my rep and told him I am refusing delivery and he completely agreed after visibly seeing the issues with the paint.

I recently took delivery, (a few days before christmas) of my 2nd E92. Inspected the car closer at the dealership but didn't notice any flaws. Again after waxing the car, I noticed a few. Maybe not 12-15 like the first one, but like 3-5. I also have black/orange dots on the car. Some seem to come off with washing and washing and others seem to remain?

My question is, am I being too picky? Should there be imperfections in the car directly from the factory? Is it because Im ordering mineral white mettalic?

Has anyone else found these problems with there paint? On someone elses paint? Anyone ever here of this period???

PLEASE HELP!! Here is a picture if you can make out the spot.

Thanks

I think my MW has some of those, but I'll check.

Imperfections in paint will be on every car from the the factory to some degree as you can already attest to. Usually the factory does a pretty good job with not having many issues. Up to you whether it's something you can deal with or not. I will say that metallics and/or pearl paints can magnify some of the effects due to how the paint lies when it's sprayed.

I've already returned 1, and waited another month and a half for another to be built! Do I wait again? This should not be happening on this nice of a car IMO.

While I agree it's something that shouldn't happen, it's more of a fact that it will happen regardless whether we're talking about an F150 or an M3. There is no way to make the paint perfect without spending many, many hours on paint correction after the paint is applied at the factory. This costs way too much money and in reality, 99% of customers will never notice or complain.

I wouldn't worry about it.

That's completely normal. No way to get a perfect paint job.

Have a couple of those on my MW as well...normal from what I know. As others have said...no real way to get a perfect paint job unless you pay a Indy shop to do it at a price.

I have a few (<10) on my AW E92. Bothered me at first but if you don't look for them you can't really see them.

Normal, I polished my car a few times and the imperfection is very minimal now. You are being TOO picky IMO

Given the rate at which you will collect rock chips from driving and mechanical issues will arise, this will be the least of your problems.

I have exactly the same on my MW E92.

I dont regard it as acceptable, but could not be bothered to reject the car, reasoning that I would not notice after a while (I kind of don't, now, but it is winter, dark and the car is more often dirty than clean). Also I had waited 9 weeks for it to be built and that seemed like a long time...

Given that several other MW owners have mentioned the same thing, I wonder if their distribution of these imperfections was the same as mine?

All on the front left corner (front left wing and corner of bonnet).

If these imperfections were evenly distributed all over the car I would be more inclined to think that they are "normal" but a cluster in one area suggests otherwise.

And I had nothing like this on my earlier (2007 build) E92, in Sparkling Graphite.

i have a 2011 Silverstone E90. I have plenty of those imperfections. They are pretty microscopic and compared to the rock chips after two years don't seem that significant.
Just drive and enjoy and then in a few years get another and start over

I think you're too picky. Can't wait to see how you will react when a big rig starts spitting stones at you on the highway.

That is minor in comparison to the rock chips that you will accumulate.

Just wait until your driver's seat padding collapses and the leather creases horribly in 20,000 miles or so. Then you can really be aggravated.

what the.... are you really serious man. From the picture it looks like the size of a pin top. Wait til you scratch the underside of the bumper or worse see some rock chips, you are gonna need some high doses of valium...

THIS, I have taken delivery of 3 brand new BMWs in my life. Each time they needed immediate detailing.
