TCU is undefeated and beat a good Wisconsin team.... Will the real national champ be a matter of debate?

Sadly no, the bowls made the big 10 look "over rated." There needs to be a +1

I have no idea what's up with the bowl invites this year, but Michigan had no business playing against Mississippi State. I knew it was going to be bad, but I didn't think it'd be that bad....

it has to go to a real playoff. that's the only way there will never be any complaining. the top 9-13 teams, no bye weeks, except for the #1 team over the first week, starting early december and ending around the normal time. still can use all the existing big bowls to have the games out, you just lose the conference tie in garbage which is long over due of being thrown out.

you seed the teams just like the final four layout, 1 plays 12, 2 plays 11, etc. thats way if a team like alabama comes against an over ranked michigan state team and beats them it just proves that they didn't belong.

this will not take up any more time then normal and is completely necessary. a +1 format will only cause people to bitch more cause just deciding which teams play in the +1 game will be a whole other problem. you'll have the coaches like urban did campaigning publicly to be put it. it just won't work.

the regular season will still matter as you'll be concerned about your rank. not ranked high enough to make the playoff, well then you end up in a typical give away bowl game. ranked high enough? well you want to be ranked highest you can. since people want to claim the comps to a good job ranking, then if your ranked higher then you surely should be better then the team you play and there should be nothing to worry about right? hopefully this will also cause teams to stop playing slop games the first 3 games of the season and have a better training regimen going into the season. play more meaningful games to better help their ranking.

this will also make players better for the NFL as they be more used to "big game" experience. plus maybe there won't be as many busts in the draft as this will give the NFL a better picture of a player in better games and see how they'll respond in a playoff format where maybe they'll have a shit game but still win and see how they go into the next week.

i can go on and on about why there should be a playoff.

You're absolutely right. Everyone agrees with you. But the powers that be will never let it happen. Ever. Too much money would be lost by the teams that aren't in the top 9-13. The schools and the NCAA have no interest in changing it. The BCS feeds us shit and we have no choice but to eat it. Hardly anyone gives a shit about bowl games before January. It is a silly system that should have been changed ages ago.

Worst part is it keeps a casual fan of college football like myself from really ever caring about the sport in general. I am not alone.

wtf Wisconsin, you couldn't run it in from the 3 yard line on the conversion!?

That said, we'll see how the last Big 10 - SEC matchup goes this year. I think it'll be a closer game than the 3.5 point spread. Ohio State is significantly better than the crap PSU, Michigan, and MSU put on the field...

The only way to shut everyone up is go into a 4 or 8 team playoff. Of course this will destroy the tradition of the major bowl games and regular season rivalries for that matter. Though BCS is far from perfect, I'm on the fence on whether a playoff would be good for college football, just to draw in the casual fan.

I don't know.... That seemed to be a good call on the 2-pt conversion, just poor execution combined with a heads-up play by Carder. The TE was wide open.

And as far as the crap that PSU and UofM put on the field.... Well, I didn't expect much out of McGloin and he didn't disappoint, and we all knew Michigan had absolutely no business playing in a bowl game on New Years Day, or any day for that matter.... Michigan State, however, should have played better, but they pulled the same shenanigans we always knew they were capable of, and just downright embarrassed themselves against what should have been semi-even competition.

Tressel and OSU have put some great talent on the field in the past with some pretty underwhelming results.... It'll be interesting to see how they play with all the controversy surrounding those jackasses on the team.

Anyone else think it is completely absurd that the players in question are allowed to play in the bowl game, but are ineligible for the first few games next season? What explanation can possibly justify this decision, besides the fact that the game will lose a HUGE chunk of viewership?

There is no other explanation, and the NCAA basically doesn't care that this is the prevailing notion. It's sad.

How ballsy would it be if Tressel shocked the world and didn't play the 5 idiots tonight?

It would do more for College football than anything the NCAA would ever be willing to do...

I can see Tressel doing that. Didn't he already butt heads with the NCAA about this?

As much as I hate OSU, I really respect that guy, and I'm envious of their program. I can see a guy like that sitting those players, at least for a half.

Didn't Tressel say he will allow them to play the bowl game if they promise to come back next year? All 5 of them agreed, so they will be playing.
