It did get beat handily, that is what 500 ponies will do. It should be much closer from a dead start and M-DCT will help as well. Of course on a track would be a different story. Just trying to look at the glass as half full here...

Sure....let's add 15 bags of groceries, a bike rack, some skis...the M5 wagon will do well on a track.

Translation please?

Just in case I was unclear what I meant about better from a start was that up to 100 or so it will be much closer and maybe DCT will take the lead until the wagon gets into it's stride.

No DCT would be able to make that distance up. Not from a roll anyway. I guess from a standing start it would be a different case between an E61 and a DCT E92. We all know the m5,m6 are deadly once on the go

Something doesn't add up I just can't believe the M3 is that slow I mean I used to be DEAD even with E60 M5's in my 335 even up to 140-150mph and all the videos from the M5 Board runs are just a complete let down. I really want to see theses same races from another source cause I really have a hard time believing the results I've been seeing.I mean doesn't anyone wonder why the M5/M6's from that series never seem to lose to anything lol (ya right) I'm pretty sure the M3 driver is completly useless or has a 328 motor.

I was at place that day. In most M3 E92 videos you see from M5board.com, Gustav started in second gear instead of first gear with the M3. I dont know if thats the case in this video but I wonder if it was a good idea to start in second gear. Might been a better race if he started in first gear

---------------------

I can assure you guys one thing. The videos aren't fake. What you see in the videos is what happen in the races. No fake, its real races with different drivers. Both drivers did their best to win.
I get really pissed at people dissing the m5board.com videos when a race doesnt end they way they first thought it would end. It's just stupid.

The good news for M3 owners in the US: the M5 wagon is not sold in the US.

I was responding to your comment about how things would be different on the track. No doubt the M3 will spank the M5. But in the areas of fast grocery getting or hauling canoes quickly.... M5 will crush the M3

Weight becomes much less of a factor above 70 mph. Power and aerodynamics are most important.

Yes totally agree. To the doubters, Per is a member here who ran with his Vishnu 335i, you can ask him if the videos are real.

Are you going to say the same thing when the M3 spanks the RS4?

Don't forget that M-DCT is not just offering better shift speeds but also offers significantly different gearing and in 2nd and 3rd much more torque to the ground.

As well, like the other poster mentioned 1st gear is correct in the M3 at 50 km/h. You can not get a totally fair shake if you are in the wrong gear. That being said 1st may be the best gear on the M5 as well.

No, spanking an RS4 is hardly worth bragging about thats like saying it spanked a stock 335. Also from the video I've seen the M3 lost just as bad as the RS4 did to the same M5.

Yeah....beating the RS4 is like sleeping with the town whore, everyone has done it.

i really look forward to the 335i V2 vs. M3 and the M3 vs. All videos.

The point is though these videos are not fixed.

dont mind it at all. it was just ONE race. As "just me" told the dude started in the 2nd gear. This might ve influenced the start. also a second person with cam was in the m3 and so on ( as someone before me mentioned: to see the half full waterglass )

Yeah, fine, but what did people expect really? The M5 has the higher weight/power plus SMG.

Most of the gain happens in the first two shifts which leads me to believe that things would be a lot closer with DCT.

Probably a bad analogy. Unless your buying palette loads from Costco the M3 will do just as well at grocery shopping as the M5. I don't know why you would want to haul canoes quickly, I would go slow. But if I were hauling canoes I'd put them on top of the roof. I would think the M3 would do just as well here too.

I think a better example would be say, hauling several boxes of computer equipment. Here the M5 wagon would have an edge over the M3. The wagon would have extra room in the back over the M3s trunk.

Isn't there a new race series where you have to haul boxes of computer equipment around a winding course? If I'm not mistaken these races are sponsored by Microsoft.
