Combox/6NR- Enabling BMW Assist

Hey guys,

I have the Combox/6NR retrofitted into my '10 E93. However, I really miss being able to use the SOS button and especially having the ability to send directions/POI straight to my car via Google Maps.

I've searched the forums and see some conflicting answers (some say it's not possible, others say you need a dealership to activate).

So what's the deal? Is it possible? If it does require a visit to the dealership, are there any in NJ/PA/NY/DE area that are willing to do this?

Thanks in advance.

You probably got the Combox Media edition. For starter you would need combox telematic edition. That's the easy part.

Then you have to find a dealer who's willing to transfer your old assist box number to the new telematic number.

Stupid question, but how can I tell which one I have? Do you happen to know if the guys at Mt Laurel (or any other dealership) would be willing to do this kind of transfer?

I spoke to my installer and I believe I have the Media edition.

Has anyone actually had any luck with activation of the Telematics version via dealership or through BMW Assist folks?

If you have the media one then it's probably not worth it for you to spend the extra cash on the telematics + having to pay a dealer to do the switch.
