Retrofit new 3 series steering wheel to E9X car?

I like the new, thinner, more works-looking steering wheel in the new 3 series & wonder if they'd be compatible w/ our cars?

Did a search, but may have missed it if covered before.

TIA

You would be surprised, it may fit. The wheel should physically fit and should bolt on, the challenge is if the wiring matches up for the steering wheel controls. If both wheels have the same exact functions, that would be a plus. The airbag connectors should be the same and they should plug right in.

I retrofitted a heated steering wheel into my 02 M5 from another e39, only had to add a pin to the slip ring to power the heat. That pin also had to run to switched power, but that was pretty easy. I also swapped a newer style M wheel into my 95 M3, the wheel was from an e38 7 series.

I'm looking to swap in a heated DCT wheel from an X5M into my e90, but cost is holding me back! Future project.

You leave me... hopeful! lol

Thx for the info--hopefully someone will engineer the swap & let us know what's needed.

All for someone trying. Airbag plugs will likely be the same. Someone needs to see a picture of the plugs as you suggested for all the controls into the clock spring and see if they are the same shape etc to the e9x.
