Iphone 5 and Y Cable

Whenever I drive my e90 I almost always hook up my phone using the y cable. Ever since I got the iphone 5 I've realized how bad the charging capability is with the 30 pin adapter. It's actually almost non existent and before the charging was okay not really that great but I got a few percent at least. Is there any option out there that is a y cable but comes with lightning connection instead of the 30 pin one? I checked around and couldn't really find anything. Amazon had one but reviews were crap

I bought a lightning connector to USB from monoprice and it works well but I don't know about Y cables or what that's even needed for.

Pre combox if I'm not mistaken required the use of a y cable to get ipod functionality through the idrive system. Everyone else only needs a USB cable whether it be 30 pin or lightning is based on your phone. The y cable was made before the iphone 5 came out so it comes with a 30 pin connection standard. To make the 5 work I added the 30 pin adapted to the y cable. It just doesn't charge at all

I used the 30 pin to lightning adapter from Apple and I found the audio quality was terrible. The DAC in the adapter is not as good as the DAC built into the iPhone. I ended up just getting a USB stick and copied my MP3s onto that.

As for charging... I have no problem with charging.

i've been looking at my other options and i wouldn't really care, but i want the charging capability. oh well i guess we can't have it all

Yes. Y cable to the 6inch 30 pin/lightning adapter.

If you just want to charge, get a cigarette lighter charger for the phone. Somehow the cigarette lighter plug in the armrest doesn't work when I have the USB stick plugged in though. I think it either can power via USB or the lighter plug but not both.

Maybe use a USB or other means for the music and get a cigarette lighter charger to charge.

yup thought of that as well. i use one in my e36 and it charges faster than my charger at home, but then how i would play my music hahaha i don't have bt streaming

I had a aux-in audio cable from the phone to the car before. It worked okay for music.

Still I prefer using the USB stick with my MP3s. It sounds the best as the digital decoding is done by the car. There is no audio quality loss.

Thanks for the advice I might just go this route. Funny how no new y cable has been made, but I guess there's just no demand for it since everyone can just use their apple cable
