Replacement Tyres

Sure this has been discussed before but I would like some opinions.

Ive had my e92 M3 from new and have just had to replace the rear tyres after just 8,000 miles. Original tyres were michelin PS2 and there was no way I was going to replace them with the same as I think they wear far too quickly.

I decided to get the new Michelin Pilot Super Sports 265/35/19 after doing some internet research they seemed to be the ones to go for. ATS were by far the cheapest with a price of £630 fitted for the pair. They ordered the tyres for me and I was actually present when the sales guy gave michelin UK my car details. The tyres came in but they have the MO (mercedes) fittment ref. I personally spoke with Michelin technical who assured me that fitting these to my M3 was perfectly fine and the fact that the tyre wasnt yet 'approved' by BMW made no difference. I actually checked with my local BMW dealer who echoed the same comments as BMW but I have this doubt about them not having the full BMW association.

Has anybody else fitted pilot super sports to their M3

Hi Checkmate - do your tyres have the MO designation on them. According to Michelin UK there will be no pilot super sports with bmw m star designation for many months!

I have had the std M3 size PSS rear tyres on my car for the past 9 months or so and they are brilliant. A significant improvement over PS2s

I don't understand what the big deal about BMW approved tires is. The PSS is a tire, a good tire, you put it on the car and you drive it. This will not affect your warranty and it won't have any adverse effect on your car.

Just because it is not BMW approved makes no difference. A tire is a tire.

But some tires have stars!
