I had expected a lot better from a $72,000 car!
Understood.
Well I think I may have experience the same on manual mode during one wkend run once manuevering the twisties. I was still coming out of the apex of one turn and was surprise to see another coming so fast that force me to downshift to 2nd and lost slight directional control and broke traction. I wish I was more observant if it was the delay caused it. Im more cautious now my manual 2nd gear shifts

I drive to work everyday in traffic and this lag has nearly gotten me hit a few times.

On Monday morning I sent out an email to BMW Europe with cc to BMW Greece complaining about the lag issue. Today I got a forwarded responce from BMW Europe via BMW Greece saying (amongst others) exactly as follows: "M-GmbH is working on the problem and apparently there will be a solution to this problem in March. But the date is not confirmed yet".

I think this is in line with what another member has posted, whereby according to his/her (secret!?) trusted source, BMW is working on this with the aim to release a solution around March.

March isn't too far away (I hope they meant March 2009) - let's see...

I'd like to hear honest, unbiased opinions on if it's worth it, for a person who's always driven and "sworn" by manual tranny's, to buy a DCT. ...or is it too much trouble for what it's worth and just stick with the tried/true MTs??

Been driving manuals for over 30 years. I can heel and toe 100 times better than the DCT while braking.

I wanted to be able to sip my latte, while eating a hamburger and driving with my knee while going 60 mph through a snow storm.

That's why I've got DCT.

Just kidding. I'd have bought an Audi S4 if I wanted to do that.
Just kidding. The S4 cup holders won't hold a Venti from Starbucks.

You won't find those on this forum, or probably anywhere else for that matter. Here's a good explanation of why:

http://www.conservative-resources.co...n-of-bias.html

Also, this thread was created for owners to chime in on their lag issues. So you're kinda OT. However, if you search the forum, there are thousands of posts on the topic of the pros and cons of M-DCT and comparisons between it and a manual transmission.

Hi All,

New member here. Just picked up an E90 M3 last Friday. February 1st week build. I had read about the lag but now I have experienced it.

Quite frustrating, but I'm still in love with the M and don't regret buying it at all. I'm thinking I can adapt myself as I did with the SMG by shifting down to 1st in advance.

Don't have the VIN on hand, but I'm across the Atlantic anyway...

man, so does does this mean that practically every DCT car has lag?
I am going to order a sedan with DCT in August, but this info is making me worried. Does anyone here NOT have lag?
If things look bad a few months down there road i just might go the IS-F route...

F*%k this POS transmission.

I'm tired of pushing on the accelerator just to have the car sit there doing nothing.

F*%k BMW for pushing this POS into production before it was ready.

VW doesn't do it. They got it right.
Audi doesn't do it. They got it right.
Porsche doesn't do it. They got it right.

BMW ..... Well?

My car now downshit to 1st gear a lot more often then just down shift to 2nd w/ D-3 now. It started doing that about 2 weeks ago, anybody has experienced this? It used to only down shift to 2nd when I roll.

I'm willing to bet that downshit problem is unique to your car.

I'm actually glad the car now downshifts to 1st more instead of just 2nd since I dont get the lag as often as it used to be. BUT the lag still exists since sometimes it will decide downshifting to 2nd is good enough, I step on gas and then the lag occurs. I remember once I was rolling to a red light and it turned green so I stepped on gas and I literally finish saying "Goddam lag" before any throttle kicked in.

Bluesummer, apparently your proofreading skills, even after my subtle hint, could stand some improvement.

You car is downshiting while everyone else's is downshifting.
