I see you have a BBK...stainless steel lines used? If so, whatever sliced the hoses what sharp

Yes , i had stainless lines, i guess it was a metalpiece of some kind,
and it must have happened somewhere on the straight, the brakes worked perfect before

On side note - I had no idea our front fenders were some sort of composite material that could shatter like that.

glad you are ok. something grinding through the caliper body long enough to put a hole in it without you noticing until failure sounds pretty unlikely though. if there is that much friction you would feel it and likely smell it. plenty of cars run with minimum clearance between caliper and wheel. just need to get a sheet of paper clearance. still in racing shit happens. proof in pictures would go a long way. otherwise sounds like maybe you were going too fast for your experience and/or condition of the car. doesn't help that you picked up a friend right before.

I was thinking the same thing did i make a misstake? , everything happens realy fast when you are going 200+ and have sharp right turn in front of you.
But they showed me at the BMW shop afterwords how the brake fluid flushed out of a hole in the left brake caliper .
Actually felt good to know that it wasn´t my fault , just bad luck.
I have a crappy iphone movie of the fluid flushing out when pressing the brake pedal, i might post it later

Could have been something got stuck between the caliper and wheel such as wheel weight coming loose. It doesnt have to be over time. Just that instant that the object struck the caliper it pokes a hole or cracked the hoising enough cause the leak. I would like to see the hole if possible.

Doesn't BMW have a failsafe on their brake system? In theory every car should have this. A cross link between RF and LR, or maybe front and back. This type of system is designed specifically for these applications - when you have a puncture and all fluid doesn't gush out at the same time. I know Volvo cars have that.

Also, after you started sliding, did you notice any "Brake Fluid" notification on the dash?

I had my brakes fail on me at 140km/h in a 2005 Volvo V50. Same situation, pedal to the floor. I was able to get very little braking power by pumping the brakes. Eventually came to a safe stop. The reason for failure was a punctured (non-stainless steel line) brake line. After applying the brake, I had brief stopping power, and then a solid thumb of brakes letting go and pedal down on the floor. The brake warning came on ~15 seconds after I lost my brakes. So much for the safest car in the world.

Good to hear you're ok. Can you post some pictures of where the puncture happened? What type of calipers did you use?

Your standard auto policy does not cover track days nor does it cover i you hit the wall at the drag strip. Your suppose to have a seperate endorsement for that. Thats not to say some shady tow drivers wont dump you off in thr middle of no where in a ditch.

In the states in depends on your insurer. If it is a sanctioned driver's training event it "may" be covered. Track insurance is always a safer bet.

I agree with superfly. I don't understand how this happened. I assume the M3 is like every single car out there and has 2 separate circuits connecting each front wheel with its diagonal opposite rear wheel. So in theory, if you develop a leak anywhere in the system you still retain 50% of your braking power. I actually had a brake line puncture due to rust in my old 1998 Intrepid when I was a student, and even though the pedal was noticeably softer I still had some residual braking power.
