This is why one should always check to close the gas cap...

You probably see cars with open gas caps driving on the road. well this one is on track. and the video shows you what happens to the gas in the tank if you apply sideways G-force to a car

The story: The car in front of me spilled gas as he was exiting a turn at the track. I forgot to put this up. happened a couple weeks ago at trackdaze event.

Its easier to see at high definition. (about 30 seconds into the video)

I'm glad you weren't smoking a cigarette while driving behind him!

That also seemed like a lousy place for a pass in an HPDE event--such a short little chute for passing. Did you point him by, or did he just go by?

i gave him the point by and took my foot off the gas, in intermediate group you can pass anywhere where the wheels are straight with a point by. it is a short area but its not that bad once you are on the track. the driver passing have to cut into the corner screwing up his line and braking harder, but since i give the point by, i am aware what he has to do to pass.

oh forgot to mention, the smell was very very bad when the gas flew out. it must be the warm weather that magnified the smell, because we could smell it very densely in the car.

I was initially worried but made the run very smooth. If i wasnt comfortable, i wouldnt give a point by anyway. For instance, i didnt give point by's while coming into the oak tree turn. just didnt feel comfortable and i think the Z06's behind me was ok with it

Well, i dont know how much you know about cars but as its said "dont judge a book by its cover". The looks from outside doesnt tell whats under the hood, suspension, tires etc.

I know that they were both modded (engine+weight reduction) and running on slicks but i dont know what mods exactly they have on the car. The red one i think might be a dedicated track car. With that lightweight, they are much faster in corners than my 4k lbs fat baby.

It's not just the car, the driver has much more to do with it on a track with bends.

besiktas, i recommend placing the camera further back so you can see your own hand movements and where you are looking. it will prove to be a great tool for your self improvement. to anyone complaining about why he got passed in a driver school, try one for yourself. no room for ego with a high horsepower car on a track. everyone has their own pace.
leaking fuel is big problem. i'm surprised the car didn't have a cel because of the vapor leak. maybe it already had a cel for some other reason. not an excuse though. if i saw that at the ring i and 200 of my close friends would have likely booted them off the track.

i have videos take with gopro already posted on the forum. check them out. in those videos the camera is located right between the two seats.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=738432

Not to mention 2:26 on VIR full course with a stock car is definitely not a slow pace. (had about 40 laps in 2 days between 2:26-2:30)

Edit: I tried to put iphone in the center of the car the gps for the HTL didnt work that well.

I actually ran down a Cadillac CTS in the pit lane at Gingerman two weeks ago that had his gas tank left open. At least he didn't get out there, unlike this person. There really should be someone checking cars on the pit lanes before they are allowed on track, but not all organizations have that. I think all the BMWCCA schools I've ran with have that (not trying to put down Trackdaze, I've ran with them once, and they run a good school). This may happen more than you think, since it seems the tendency is for drivers to remember to fill up right before their session, and track gas pumps are usually a bit odd, and drivers get in a hurry and forget the routine.

So true, at VIR, the pump didnt automatically stop so it overflow the tank. It happened so several other people as well. And yes in the heat of the moment, all those racecars driving by and the adrenalin inside, you just want to get in to the car and go and forget if you closed the tank or not.

However i never thought it would happen because my tank has this metal piece that you have to push to put the nozzle in. i thought that would disable gas from coming out. maybe its in the newer cars?
