Without a proper gauge none of us actually know what temp the oil is, but on my dash, for the past 16 months, in FLORIDA, it's never gone above the 210 mark on the oil temp gauge. If it's below 60, the oil temp reads just shy of 210. Below 50 and the oil temp reads a needle's width shy of 210.
Not disagreeing with you, just stating facts.

The temp gauge is a combination of oil temperature and coolant temp. If it was 90 and you were running your ac, it is more likely that the water temperature was a little high. There are two levels of warning and if you didn't see anything you are probably fine.
My car was heating up just sitting idle with an outside temp of 50. After being in the shop 5 days, they finally figured out the fan relay was never put in securely. The only way I know of getting a real oil temp is with the performance wheel or a set of auxillary gauges in the ash tray. BMW thinks most of their customers would not know what oil temp, pressure and water temp means.

Today I noticed my oil temp gauge was above the 210 mark by about 1/8th to 1/4 inch. Outside air temp was 75. This is the first time i've noticed it over the 210 mark. I was running it a little hard today and when I parked it I could smell the heat from the back end of the car as I walked past. I've burned my legs on the exhaust tips many times. I would say anything around 210 or even slightly over is probably OK depending on driving. Mine is almost always below the 210 mark by just a hair or sitting right on it.
