Reckless driving w/ racing...

Ok, heres the story my friend got a reckless driving ticket while he was going around 100mph on I-5 right after the Canadian border...

He also was tagged as racing with another car (friend, they both got tickets, the other friend was going around 90mph...)

After being pulled over, he admitted going over the speed limit and passing other cars in an unsafe manner.

The other friend bought a lawyer for around 1k-1,500... The friend I am writing for isnt able to get a lawyer at the moment, he also doesn't think this is serious.

So question is... How serious is this? what is the most possible worst case scenario, is a lawyer required?

btw, he has a couple traffic violations, and a defferal for shoplifting...

Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks for looking.

Getting a lawyer can only help. What degree is the offense? Class C, or B?

If it is a class B misdemeanor I would probably get a lawyer to be safe and fight the case if needed. Keep in mind though that 1500 paid is only to handle the case if it is quick. If they actually have to take it to court it will be additional charges.

I wish your friend the best of luck.....

I got a reckless driving that was completely bullshit. I am still going with the lawyer to court. Its the lowest misdemeanor for me.

Not certain what the punishments in your state are, but in CA you would definitely loose your license for a year and pay some hefty fines!! Not to mention insurance rates would skyrocket!

Oh is fo reals man...there was an article about it too on the net. CHP even made the owners watch as their cars were crushed at the recycling yard. Racing and auto-theft is really bad here in the Inland Empire especially Rialto/Fontana area. Kinda like OC a few years ago.
