08 DCT, mileage 50k miles. Accident free, all stock parts
Brought the car one year ago from the previous guy who was the first owner. Knew for a fact then he track the car approx 10+ times previously. Now I just hopped out of my mate's '11 car with half the mileage and never been tracked. His the car feels so firm and tight compared to mine. My car feels like a old used whore that I cant extract any wonderful feelings out of , steering feels vague, loud groaning noise in the cabin under sprited driving and suspension feels off. His car on the other hand had such great response to any steering input, and feels tight and well... Reminds me of 20+ yr old ladies. Short of doing an alightment, making sure all the screws are re-torqued to specs, is there anything I can do to make the car feels tighter? |

Before you go crazy replacing this and that with regard to suspension and mounts, consider the obvious variables that may be contributing to the difference.
When I went from worn Contis to an RS-3 square setup (on my '08) it felt like Adrian Newey re-engineered the suspension and balance. Everything that you describe save the groaning noise in the cabin (?) could be attributed to tires.

Your car needs a new "Pussy~Suspension" Sorry I saw the James Bond "From Russia with Love" movie last night and I think Goldfingers "Pussy~Galore" is still on my mind
Mind you she is much older now too ... anyway in the movie she looked okay Last edited by Mr. ///M3 RD; 10-07-2012 at 10:38 AM.. Reason: Minor change |

By 50k miles, shocks and bushings are starting to wear. Probably nothing significant, but a new set of shocks and a couple strategically selected bushings willl probably go a long way. Tires can certainly also make a differance.

Does your friend's M3 have the competition pack? If so, it will also be another reason why it feels "tighter" than a regular M3 due to the wider wheels, wider overall track width and being 10mm lower in ride height. Also, over the production life cycle of the M3, M have made tweaks to the steering as well. But a refreshed suspension and full geometry will certainly improve things quite a bit.

Thanks guys for the response and ideas how to get tight back.
Tires are new Michelin PSS. Thinking of getting KW CS, pardon me but does the struts gets replaced too if I get the coil over set? Subframe bushings, control arm joints, was there a reason you changed those? I was told updating the software will give better steering feel too |
