Really......How hard could it be?

Has anyone ever gutted their catalytic converters before? How hard could it be to do on the primaries?

I was gonna write cats but i realized that conjured disgusting images.

Yes, I've done it on older vehicles. It's very easy. All you do is unbolt it and knock everything out then bolt it back on.

I'm willing to bet you will see very little if any performance gains though. So I wouldn't recommend it. Wouldn't want to fail an emissions test or cause some other problems.

We wouldn't do it, it very expensive to replace the factory pieces.

It would be better to get a test pipe made with a flange so they can be swapped, it will cost more but will give more ease of use.

Don't forget you'll need new engine management software to keep everything working correctly after cat removal.

Ice caps are so last year.

Just get the cats cut out, you might need those pieces to squeak by emissions.

Sam is right. I called the other day just to see how much the dealer would charge for an x pipe and pri cats and they quoted me $4200.

I just cut mine out and replaced with a straight pipe. I kept the stock cats in tact in case I needed them. Some people say you need software to avoid CEL and what not. I have not received any messages and its been about 750 miles so far..

Jon how much louder is it? Does it feel alot faster? We need to do some real side by side comparo's to see how much you gain from these mods.

This only true for the M3 then? For older cars that I've done it on you only need the right wires that basically convince the ECU that it's still there.

That is inccorect, you don't NEED new software to keep the car running correctly. What you need the software for is to keep the CEL from coming on. The car itself will run just fine.

THATS SOOOO FUNNY I was thinking about texting you earlier about it cause I was like "Hmmm I wonder if Drew is down for some runs and see if the cats help" lol my exact thought. It does feel faster I feel I at least gained 12hp on the butt dyno the torque feels stronger too.. And ya its a good deal louder above 4k rpm

Yes I did. It sounds Raspy on the inside above 4k rpm but I let my friend do a drive by with standing on the curb and its not as noticeable to me from the outside. I'll try to make a video this week. It does sound pretty ferocious though
