I have had a 335 Convertible that had a fluttering top issue that BMW never owned up to and then the M3 that I have a DCT problem with. Again, BMW has never even had the decency of owning up to it.

Again, maybe I am biased by experience.

I'm off this topic. Good luck to you all and enjoy your M3s.
I think comparing the reliability between Audi and BMW is essentially splitting hairs, they are both just fair but quite reliable with very good build quality. It's not like comparing Lexus with Chrysler.

The last Audi we had wan an A4 Avant 1.8T, which was a good car, although it sludged it's motor. Having now owned a few of each, I give a slight edge to BMW, mainly due to the small electrical and delaminating interior finish issues with the Audis. On the other hand, the motor in my Cayman S blew up catastrophically, and Porsche beats both hands down in most surveys...all anecdotal.

dumbass.

Anyways, looks like my ride next year isn't going to be the RS5. M3 is looking at a whole new model soon and Audi comes out with RS5 that doesn't outperform current M3?
The interior and exterior design however, is top-notch. I don't see any other brand in this segment creating such classy yet modern looking cars.
Audi recently has been nailing pretty much all their line-ups in terms of design. Even their hatchback/wagon design is nothing but work of an art.

I saw the RS5 in person 2 weeks ago, and i must say it looks incredible. Would I pick one over the other? I honestly don't know, but thats one decision that I will never have to worry about because I'll never be able to afford either. But that RS5 is gorgeous.

Buying a sports car for its looks is a huge part as to why people buy sports cars. Why? Because you are not going to be on the race track 24/7. Eventually you will drive that car in the real world and thats where the looks of a car becomes apparent. You are not going to do too well at a party trying to justify the horrendous looks of your car with performance figures.

Sat in the RS5 today..... stellar in all ways. The rims and brakes and the monster tires. Aesthetically the RS5 beats the M3 in pure sexiness. IMO of course. BUT..... I am not all about looks, performance is key and the M3 is a true performer and stunner in the looks dept as well.

The M3 will be the car that captures my heart in every aspect, the RS5 just doesn't seem to cut it for me! But nonetheless, it's a great looking GT car!

The appearance of a vehicle plays a huge role, even though almost everyone here purchased an M3 for its performance.

Judging by performance figures, stats and review articles/videos released so far. What more can you do at this moment?

Exactly my feelings too!

Absolutely

I fell in love at first sight of the E92 M3. It was a loooong wait until the time I eventually got my M3 DCT (one of the first to arrive in Greece back in June '08), but it was well worth it.

Now, looking at the RS5 I can confidently say that this car does not do the trick for me. Even if it was a bit faster than the M3, more enjoyable to drive and came at a lower price I would still pick the M3.... In retrospect of course and based on this comparisson, picking the M3 would be a no brainer for me.

Since I have sat in one at the dealership, perhaps I will ask if I can take one out for a spin, then I can put a "true experience" twist on this debate. BUT.......... I have watched a number of information videos and read a number of articles.... they all say the same thing. Vs the M3, the RS5 is only beauty skin deep and though it may have more power, it is not as useable as the M3's.

Exclusivity...really that's embarrassing. First of all who cares, I'm not trying to impress anyone. Like we're driving Ferrari 599s or a Lambo.

Yea, ok, maybe because its rarer you can say that its more exclusive, but in the end they all look the same. do you honestly think that any R8 driver (c**k, really) is going to thing you can hang with them? No.
I was hanging with 3 R8 drivers at Monticello Motor club last week. All nice guys without a hint of snobbiness. And oh, I passed 2 of them in my stock E36 M3. The guy with the V10 killed his S-tronic tranny, had to be flat bedded home.

Audi wins hands down in the sound department. I just traded my B7 S4 for a 335 e92. 335 sound s like a Honda compared to the S4 rumble. I miss it. If I could trade back ...I would.
But you'd be slower on the track in the S4, but obviously you've never been on the track because you'd know you can tell a huge difference between cars there. The S4s are pigs in the corners because of the drivetrain weight. They do sound nice though.

i have to say i think constantly closing thread is a bit annoying. why not keep it open and let people say what they want to say. if you don't like, don't read it.

believe it or not, the one with lot of argument is the one that most interesting to read IMO. I love m3 vs thread, lol

That's utterly silly. All that proves is that you bought something just because it is more expensive. Based on what I gleaned from the C&D test the M3 is better on the track, smoother during daily driving, and more fuel efficient. Oh, and it's $20,000 cheaper if you don't get frozen gray.

Audi tried to pull a similar stunt with the S4 when they said that the starting price was going to be $56,000. Thankfully at least one person at Audi of America realized they couldn't compete with the M3/335i and slashed the price by $10k.

Another bump - just because we really do need three M3 beats RS5 threads at the top of this forum.

Over time, let's see if we can't fill the entire first page of this forum up with them.
