you should see the traffice in downtown DC now. Everyone and their moms decided to go home at 3:00 today once they allowed people to enter the parking garages.

I'm not surprised, I left my building too, since we're not in the earthquake zone, you never know how these buildings were designed and to what tolerances. If this was California, a 6.0, I wouldn't even have left my seat.

Exactly. I could feel our building flexing on the 4th floor (highest floor). My brother's 15 story building developed cracks on the side of the building.

This thing shut Philly down today. I was on the 9th floor where I work and let's just say it was very noticeable.

well I just spent 2 + hrs getting home.
I commute to work via Metro. Wasn't too bad until I hit Rosslyn. It wasn't the fact that the entire Metro System was delayed, metro cars were packed with people, or that my train I boarded broke and had to get off, but it was the people that were really getting on my nerves. I want to say "mob mentality" but it was really quite the opposite where people were swarming, cutting in line, and pushing and being rude, in panic, and total disregard for each other. Whining, screaming, arguing, to top it off too. Complete utter selfishness. I had enough and vacated the Metro station to hail a cab. No relief as people were doing what they could to get a cab even if they weren't the ones that hailed it. I am disgusted with society... SO many DRAMA QUEENS and KINGS out there today. If DC were to ever have a real emergency, this place would be utter chaos. I can't imagine how it was like on 9/11 at the Pentagon. Ok that was my rant. If I came off as insensitive, i don't care. Probably the Marine in me that is used to worse conditions and explosions going off in Iraq - since i'm used to it...lol I'm off to go vent my anger and disgust by going out on a evening jog.

back in 1986 I happened to be in Tajikistan with my entire family and one peaceful night small village near the city where I was living got hit with 10 on Richter scale, we got 9.3. I've never felt anything like it in my life, that Karakum village went straight under ground with huge cracks on the surface, I remember how you could see snakes all over the roads trying to escape God knows where and howl from dogs. We were lucky to survive that tragic, and this time I got scared like many of you know not because of the earthquake it self as much as structural integrity of our DC buildings. SO Cali peeps can chill and be happy that none of that has happened to them, I can tell you that when nature hits you with that magnitude no buildings can withstand that kind of power.
