good recommendation for a divorce lawyer? NH

So the inevitable has happened to me, marriage was less than 9 months...

Assets are all in my name, pre-marital property

Nothing was bought during our marriage

Did not co-mingle funds
Do not have a joint account

MY ASSETS: All titled in my name:
Home
M3
Civic
my dog
TDAMERITRADE trading account (not retirement), just something for me to play with in the markets

So what's going to happen, can she fight anything if she felt compelled?

First off I am sorry to hear you have to go through this. I have been there and can totally relate with anger and frustration at times but prevailed with a cool head.

Depends on the state really.

I was married in Hawaii and lived in California and divorced in Oregon. lol

If its a no contest divorce you wont lose anything. Depends on her as well.

I had:

A house
02 NSX
03 MDX
02 M3
Pets
etc

She got the dining room table and her clothes on her back as my boot was up her ass as she went out the door.

I didnt give her anything and she deserved nothing. She was at fault in my marriage.

California law could have come down and said I owe her half of everything but since I filed in Oregon it fell under Oregon law.

She agreed she did not want any of my retirement and agreed on a no-contest with one exception; she wanted the dining room table. So she got that. No big deal really. She didn't even want her dog. I kept him too.

Yeah, CA law says 50/50 cuz of community property or w/e. NH is equitable, but this is all talking about MARITAL property, which i don't have at all. I spoke to a few lawyers from their free consultation and they all said i can practically walk away scratch free. If she drags it on, then she would have to pay the lawyer fees and stuff, which i know she can't afford.

Question is, do i need a lawyer IF she does not contest anything? even if she does contest, do i need one?

No worries. Just giving you my situation.

I did not get a lawyer. I went to the court in downtown Portland and the court has a $260 filing fee if the other half won't contest it. Basically both parties walk away and lose nothing. If thats the case, which it sounds like yours is, no attorney will be needed but you still will have to serve her. Once she is served you will have 30-90 days in which she should respond. If she does nothing and no response then the court rules in your favor.

haha, we filled out a joint application for divorce so she doesn't have to be served, but had to get it notarized so we have to wait till monday.

That is a great start, but filing the joint petition is just the beginning. If everything is agreed and your circuit court not too backed up, you might get to the final decree in a couple of months. Otherwise, it could be 6 months or longer (if children, definitely longer).

You can pay a little extra and have the case expedited, or at least you can in the West Coast courts. Most folks have no time to sit and wait. lol

I said WEST COAST states/cities have this option as there are probably 3-5 times the people in San Francisco, Portland Oregon, Seattle Washington, Los Angeles California, San Diego California, Honolulu Hawaii etc...

Every state is different. This is known.

Many folks have no time to sit and wait for a judge for 6 months. That is the way of life on the West Coast sometimes. Mine was signed in 45 minutes.

OP, take no chances. Talk to the best lawyers whether they offer free consultation or not. A few grand you spend now can save a lot more later. Although your case sounds simple this is my advice. Best of luck!

Thanks man, divorce laws needs to be written and IMO, anything in your name should just be yours....Sucks to have to go through that, I can only imagine how bad it must've been for you...

But yeah, all the lawyers said my case is very simple and the judges will practically rule in my favor due to short marriage and little assets.
