C.A. acting up?
Tried to unlock the M (touching the handle) thru the passenger side, and it was just relocking the car every time. Tried it 3 times and gave up; had to unlock it with the remote (key). Oh, and I locked the car from the passenger handle, so it should have opened it as well (like it does from the driver's side). Is C.A. supposed to unlock the car from the driver's handle only?. Comments welcome.

CA should definately work on all the doors and trunk
I am sure you are doing it right, but your post is a little confusing so I wanted to double check...
Touch the outside of the door handle, where the key would go, and it will lock, touch the inside as if you are pulling on the handle and it will unlock. When you are trying to open the passenger door, you are putting your hand into the handle, and not touching the outside, right? Also was it raining, or was the car wet by chance? That sometimes messes with the sensors. |

I never had any issues rain or shine on either door (was my 335 though).

Wrong .
Duh! To my defense, yesterday was the first time I needed to unlock the car in 5 months. And yes, I knew how to do it, but forgot (47 here) . Thanks buddy. I should change the title to 'Memory acting up', no? Have a good one folks. |

The INSIDE of the handle. I was touching the same place where you lock .

Not yet. Purely operator error . But read metallic paint could cause problems, so better stick with ceramic, no? My installer only carries the 3M brand, but should be basically the same as the others (Huber Optik, Pinnacle, etc.), no? My car is only exposed to the elements when I drive it, and that's only a few thousand miles per year. Take care.

But is it metallic or ceramic tint? And what brand? Just curious. Not a big deal to me either, but if I can avoid a problem using the right tint, rather do it right. Tinter said he hasn't had a problem with CA acting up with regular (metallic) tint, and others have reported problems even with ceramic, so I'm a bit confused with the issue .

You must touch, not the outside or inside of the door handle, but a sweet spot on the TOP of the handle. This top portion has a textured or ridged surface with several parallel lines. You only need to touch and hold for 1 second with one finger.

My E90 M3 was tinted with metallic tint by N. Scottsdale BMW & I have never had any problem with C.A.

I'm going to start a thread asking who has changed the battery on their CA keys and at what mileage/time from build date. What a PITA to find your battery is dead on a trip. Car should have a low battery warning. |

I went searching on the E90post since their cars been out much longer. From the threads i seen, they do have a low battery warning for the key fob. I'd assume ours is the same. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...9&postcount=13

wow - 2.5-3 years IS pretty damn good. But I think that all depends on the usage, and I open and close my roof from the key fob 90% of the time, so I would say my battery is on its way out..

Oh, and I don't think you have to insert the key for 'database' purposes; SA read my key and everything was current without inserting it, but could be wrong. Main reason it's there is if battery dies. Only question left is if settings don't get erased while battery gets replaced. If it's done within 10 seconds it shouldn't happen. Curious to hear if that's true. Thanks again. |

Replacing the batteries every 2 years seems like cheap insurance indeed. I'm at 1-1/2 years now, and little mileage, so I should be safe every 2 yrs. |
