Removing the Rear Spoiler

Has anyone attempted to remove the rear trunk lid spoiler? I'd like to take it off but am not sure if it's glue or bolted on yet. If anyone has any experience with this, I'd love to hear it. Thanks in advance!!

Why would you want to remove the spoiler? I believe that it is glued on, but I'm not sure...

I always thought it was 3m tape? In which case it is quite doable...

The factory spoiler is held on with 3M double sided exterior mounting tape. You can remove it by using a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the adhesive and wedge dental floss or nylon fishing string between the double sided tape and trunk itself.

I don't mind it too much, but it's a small point of differentiation and I prefer the smooth, "unspoiled" hood.

To put on a carbon fiber one! Just got the 3D Design spoiler. Very nice piece. 1x1 weave matches roof and has a nice shape. Pics to follow.

Yes, worked like a charm. Thanks.

3 minutes with 20# test, 5 minutes to rub tape residue, 2 minutes with Goof Off to finish clean up. New spoiler on in another 10 minutes! And to think I almost paid a body shop $150!

i like the stock one better ... with cf spoiler it looks like 135 to me ... without the spoiler at the high speed the ride wouldn't be as good as with the spoiler ... i even had it on my 335 right after M3 came out ... that little piece makes a huge difference ...

CF spoiler looks like a tacky add-on IMO, well it does on AW anyway. it would probably look better on a darker colored car.

Guess I'm one of the few that would agree with you to remove it. Never really liked it much and never like it much on the e46 M3 either.
