Saying goodbye E93 to F22

AFter agonizing over whether to keep my E93 and buy the extended warranty or move on to an M235i, I made the move yesterday. Shes melbourne red over black with a six speed manual. Smaller, lighter and more nimble, I hope she will serve me as well as the M.

Can't wait to get past break in to see what the car is capable of doing.

Carmax had offered me $36k, dealer came up to $38.5k so I was happy with the trade in (plus saved sales tax), it was like I sold private party for almost $41k. I also needed rear tires, so I saved another $800.

Thanks for being the best forum, love the users here...and may come back in a few when the M4s start coming off lease!

Sad to see the M3 go, but I'm sure you'll have fun in the 235i! You could have tried to of sold your 2011 M3 privately and potentially made another $5,000 - 8,000.

How are you saving on sales tax and selling at $41K on a trade???? If anything, you got ass rape man!! Don't ever get suckered in by the dealers and by your impulsive buys!! There was equity in your car and if you were to sell it privately, more than likely you'll get top dollars than a stupid trade that dealers pray on. 😤

Gee this is the type of ignorance I love to see. Then again most people don't know about tax break when you trade in a car, so I'm not surprised. Use google why dont you.

In most states, when you trade in a car, you only pay sales tax on the DIFFERENCE between your trade and the new car.

So if a dealer gives you $40,000 on trade and the new car is $50,000, you pay tax on the $10,000 difference. If you assume 5% sales tax, that means you only pay $500 in tax versus $2,500 if you had just bought the car outright. In essence, it's like getting an extra $2,000 on the trade.

However, I do agree that selling privately is still probably the most cost-effective thing but that can take a lot of time and hassle only to get a few hundred bucks more. There's something to be said for just handing the keys over to the dealer and being done with it.

I don't know about that. The M235i is supposed to have similar performance numbers to the 1 Series M, which was not too far off the E92 Coupe.

Perhaps, but I drove one last week at an auto cross event and whilst it is nimble and fun, it certainly is no M.

+ 1 .

I am amazed how many people driving expensive cars don't understand how tax and buying goods works.

No no! It's either wait for the soft top M2, or hang on to and enjoy your V-8.... too late. (unfortunately, I think you're gonna miss your REAL M sooner than you think.)

I knew your car was going to sell for about 41. Remember I posted on your thread in the marketplace.
I paid about 41 for my car, w/o a warranty but similar options. I bought a 3 year aftermarket warranty that covers the conv top.

Easycare could have covered your car with convertible top for about 3500 with a 250$ deductible.
But anyways, your sale price was VERY CLOSE to the average sale price of that kind of car, which is great!

Enjoy the car I love small cars, especially the 135i. I drove the m235 and felt like it was too similar to my 335i sedan which is why I passed on it, hate to see you leave the m3 club. Dont forget to consider an m2 when your looking for an m4 in a coupe years.
