Who thinks bmw ruined the interior?

Hey..just wondering if its me or everyone who thinks the new m3's interior isnt as nice as the e46? I mean they shifter the window buttons to the doors, put an ugly middle roof mirror, and the steering wheel also isnt great. But the worst thing is the speedometer and rev counter.. WHERE the hell did the old school bmw rpm lights disapear?

If u mean the yellow and red lines they light with the background of the dashboard like the m5 but not as individual lights like the e46?so what do u think of the interior as a whole, also check out the headrests they seem to under designed

at least on the issue of the steering wheel, you're in the minority. most people prefer the new steering wheel... including myself.

and personally... i prefer the window buttons off the center console and instead placed on the door handle. it feels more natural.

but there is something a litlte lackluster about this new interior though.... its no so much button placement as a lacking sporty feel.

Unhappy

Maybe its a matter of taste, but i share with u the idea of the lack of sportiness..but the layout of buttons still counts

The German price list says the seats are Multifunction, standard. I don't know if you have a different definition. There are seating options including adjustable width bolsters, heating and one I can't translate.

The colour choice for the interior - grey with grey CF leather trim - doesn't exactly convey sporty anyway and with the non-angled dash, sporty is hard to come by. The seats dissapointed me, I was expecting more aggressive, RS4 style ones.

No way I want those! The car is too tech-heavy already. I've heard they feel really unnatural in use (maybe you do get used to them). No thanks!

Yes I heard that also, but they can be adjusted to stay in a fixed position much more then the conventional seat & most have said that this has increased their comfort level...lots say the M5 seats are the best seats ever made PERIOD...check out M5board do a search....& thats why I want them badly b/c of the feedback from he m5 boys...ok I understand that the m5 is more of a "super sedan" and M3 is more of a "sport coupish" car but comfort is key in any car... .02

As I've mentioned in other posts, I think that BMW appear to be about 2 generations behind the current standard with the M3 interior we've seen so far. The photos we've seen so far don't hold a candle to the Audi S interiors on the A4 5 or 6, let alone the RS4 that so many here compare the M3 to.

Now, perhaps the interior styling will be a mute point if this car is extraordinarily fun and engaging to drive. However, for $70K USD or more, I would have at least liked to have seen a "current" sporting interior.

It is not the M3 too blame..................

BMW fucked up the interior design with the introduction with the current 5 er. Then that design was build into the E90 3 er aswel, 6 er not to mention.
IMO it is/was the biggest mistake ever made by BMW, they HAD the best interior design ever made in automobil history, and now it`s history for sure............

Indeed, the E46's dash got me into car interior's. Before then I really wasn't interested in the insides of cars.

I totally agree with you, the E46 interior is perfect in so many ways, especially if you have the built in 16:9 lcd which moves the AC unit down combined with the leather sport steering wheel.

Another thing I really like with the E46 is how NAV, AC and CD player is angeled towards the driver. Perfect. It tells everybody that this is a drivers car.

The new 3 series have to many lines that seems incomplete; like where the doors meet the dashboard and how the center console goes under the dashboard instead of beeing integrated with it.

But still, I'm waiting for the new M3...

E46 interior does look more appealing. If we take a look the new Concept CS, BMW changed the interior design toward driver-centric, omitted the big navigation screen bump (HUD is going to be the future). These design elements is inevitably going to be part of future 3er platform.

Is iDrive standard or optional, because I really wouldn't want it.

That's pretty nice. No way it will look that good in production, but it's a step in the right direction.

Owning a E90 330i and E46 M3, the E46 interior is better in every way vs. the E90 (ergonomics, materials). The E90 has a "mass produced" feel to it (non-idrive).

BUT, a lessor grade interior in E92 vs. E46 wouldnt stop me from getting the car.

Just dissapointing that BMW isnt meeting expectations in the interior materials, ergonomics department.... I would like to see them get BETTER with the new generation not take a step back
