Stupid... This is what happens when some Yahoo at a dealership "has a great idea" instead of them using an agency for their marketing and advertising.

I think it's great. Imaginative, unconventional and eye-catching. Just the thing to drum up customers.

The auto business has always had some of the most innovative advertising minds. For example, a dealer in San Francisco, Horse Trader Ed by name, use to to put a young lady at the top of a 50 foot pole. She would stay there sometimes weeks at a time. http://news.google.com/newspapers?ni...g=4558,4906933
Crazy, but the guy moved a lot of cars!

Interesting--this was done in the southern portion of Connecticut for a New London BMW.
I wonder if BMW has this has a national campaign.

It's interesting only because that's what qualifies as a "Big Story" in Cincinnati.

You only remember an advertisement if it is too good or to bad. Too good because of BMW and bad because of the mannequin. Two for two then.

I never understood the idea behind it but this is old news. About two or three years back a similar dummy was set on top of a BMW bill board off I95 north near New Haven CT. I remember it being broadcasted on the news and a few weeks later they took it down. To many people calling the police thinking it was some suicide jumper.

it is different. It does the job of catching one's attention, but I can see how it could be dangerous.

creates a significant distraction/potential safety issue; you think an advertiser would be using way better common sense judgment than this and in good conscience realize the potential ramifications of such a decision.

BMW already raking in record Jan-June sales numbers. What are they trying to accomplish? They don't need this kind of attention.
