Los Angeles or San Francisco?
I am moving to CA in the Spring, been in NYC for 5 years and that is more than enough.
I was set to move to San Francisco in June 2008 but ended up not. Since then I have kind of changed my mind to Los Angeles, but now I am wavering again. I'm looking to hear what those in the California section have to say about this, and I'm sure I'm going to hear some opinionated answers! Money nor employment should be of concern in this thread. Just tell me about why you would move to SF or LA if you were coming to CA from NYC. I am late 20s, single, CPA. Thanks gents!

do u want party lifestyle or more relaxed?
u really can't beat socal for the extravagant lifestyle, and yet you can't beat SF bay for the more relaxed setting

PKL -- I've been living in SF for almost 5 years now. I moved here from NYC (was there for 6 yrs). SF imo is one of the greatest places to live from a quality of life perspective.
Don't get me wrong, I love socal, but the SF bay area seems to give you everything you need -- decent weather year-round, high-tech innovation, smart people, good jobs, great restaurants in the City, tons of things to do from Tahoe down to Santa Cruz / Carmel area (all relatively close by car). SF streets/pavement is in much needed improvement - probably my only gripe. Good luck!

In general this makes perfect sense to me and is almost certainly why I will move to LA first. I feel as I grow older it will be a natural progression to move to SF for the more relaxed and adult lifestyle. But as a 28 year old the SoCal sun is calling me.

I like both but I live in LA. At some point I may move to NorCal, though. If I were a baller I'd have a crib in both places.
Have you considered San Diego, too? +1 let me add that I am referring to "LA" as more of the greater Los Angeles area, including Orange County (down to around Irvine) even though Orange County is really very much a separate area. But when you're new here it all seems the same at first. Last edited by FStop7; 12-05-2010 at 05:54 PM.. |

From one CPA to another, welcome to CA! I'm obviously partial to So Cal since I live here, but I often visit friends up in the Bay and would agree with what everyone else has said. Enjoy the nice weather in either city!

I'm in SoCal and, 7 years ago, spent 10 days in March up in SF on a job assignment (in the financial district) and nearly froze to death (went up there without coats, etc, since we in LA don't need coats, etc, in March). Very windy & cold in the bay area, similar to Manhattan.

How do you like DCT in traffic down in SoCal?? I have test driven both the 6MT and DCT, and basically I think I want to go back to 6MT, because I missed it when I went from an 05 6MT to an 06 SMG.

I don't use DCT's D mode, so I shift all the time (as I did w/ 6MT) in SoCal traffic. W/ so many idiots on the freeways, including unaware drivers veering over, I keep the rev loaded up at 5 to 6k RPM, ready to blip the throttle to quickly move out of the way. Plus, I luv the sound of the engine when it's winding up. Re: 6MT vs DCT, YOU choose what you want for YOUR car. I've driven both & prefer DCT...
