An epic morning !!!!!

I am writing this post at 7:05 am. I have been up for about 2.5 hours. Every year, around this time, when the light of day begins to creep at just after 4 , I venture out into the wee hours of the morning to go for my most sprited back-road drive of the year. Cool morning temps, empty roads, complete silence. Picture perfect. Today was the first time I took my M3 on my annual summer trek. I was alone, radio off, windows open. What an incredible experience this was in the M3. The feel, the sounds, the complete "oneness" I had with my car took my breath away. I have the good fortune of having some incredible pristine driving roads minutes from my home. It was like a 70-mile rollercoaster ride. Dips, dives, sweeping arcs, tight S-turns and a few nice straights thrown in for the acceleration giggles. I was just so focused on what I was doing. My senses were heightened and my mind clear. The pure solitude of being completely alone, motoring through the twisties whilst surrounded by the natural beauty of mountains, lush forest, and open green pastures all made for one of the single best driving experiences of my life. There is no question that the absolutely spectacular driver-car-road interface that the M3 affords was a huge part of this. This is also where the S65 motor just shines brilliantly. Have you ever heard this engine's eight ripping cylinders echoing off the trees against a backdrop of pure silence? Wow!! There is also a level of tactile sensitivity and connectivity with the throttle that no turbocharged motor can ever duplicate. While powerful, the power delivery seems artificial and somewhat disjointed by comparison. In an M3, the experience is beyond numbers or specs. It is about the way this car, as a total package, is simply greater than the sum of its parts. Just epic.

I know what you mean. Love those days when you get the opportunity to go on a joy ride with just you and the car. Makes you fall in love all over again.

I've been out of town for the month of June for health reasons and I miss my car! When we were parking our rental car in the parking garage the other day, i heard that distinct sound that the M makes when driving at about 10-30mph and then a grey m3 coupe passed by and it made me miss mine even more.

As the tittle says: Epic! The M3 is truly an awesome machine, much more than it's specs says, much more than the sum of it's parts. And that V8... Nice write up!

Just don't want to post on a public forum that "public road X is great for blasting around at 5 am".

Know what I mean?

Yeah, I do something very similar to this in my area once a year with a few friends......I know exactly what you mean. My friends fight over who is right behind me cause they LOVE the sound of the s65 when she screams. All of us have cars that are not the "fastest" on the roads, but but provide such joyful feedback in so many ways, its something we just love experiencing. One of them has a modded 350z--> what a great car and what a great engine.

Cheers,
e46e92
