interesting that instead of mandrel bending a single pipe, they welded together a bunch of little macaroni shaped bits...i always thought it was cleaner flow dynamic to try to keep the number of joints down to a minimum...but maybe that's splitting hairs since their design already does two 90 degree turns after the resonators before exiting out the back..

The reason that the Ericssonn has so many bends using relief cuts is that since it is titanium, the piping thickness is very thin, which if mandrel bent, will cause it to crack. Titanium exhausts use relief cut sections that are welded together because the piping cannot be bent. Thats the reason Ti exhausts are so light, because of the piping thickness. Dual canister designs like the Ericssonn and FAME need many bends because the mufflers are mounted perpendicular to the rest of the exhaust.

I understand the mechanics / design behind a Ti exhaust. I'm just saying that the Ericsson system is also horizontally mounted. The pipes do a even more drastic 180 flip before the tips. No one questioned their design, was there?

Did a serious road trip up to Portland, ME today in anticipation of 1200 mile service on Friday. Made an appointment to install the exhaust on Monday.

Do we have any German speaker in house? LOL~

I just know that it means "freedom"

*My college roommate from Germany taught me how to pronounce it. It's pronounced as FRY-HITE.

Update:

Exhaust was installed today. It was a easy fully bolt on install. Everything lines up with precision and the tips need not be adjusted at all. I was very surprised by the ease of the install. The tips stick out a bit more than stock and would benefit from a carbon diffuser.

Sound-wise, I am happy to report that there is no drone in the cabin throughout the entire rpm range. There is very little difference in terms of exhaust note inside the cabin. It might be slightly louder but I can't say for sure. Externally, you can definitely feel the difference in sound level. It is a very aggressive sound that is higher pitched than stock. I'll try to get some sound clips up if the weather clears in Boston so that I can set up my tripod outdoors.

In terms of performance, butt dyno tells me that the lower end is more responsive now. It feels like the car picked up some HP and TQ in the low end. I have not really tested out the high end since I am still supposedly under break in.

Overall, I am happy with the choice of this exhaust. Sound is just what I expected. Quality is exactly what you would expect from a JDM exhaust made by Tanabe. The double walled tips look nice as well.

Awesome, Kev. I am really looking at this exhaust once my M3 gets stateside. Thanks to Rennspec too!
