Supersprint Race or Akrapovic Slip-on

Hi,

I am new to the forum, but I have read lots here !

I narrowed down my 2 choices for exhausts and they are:

Supersprint Race:

(up to 1:30 is the race exhaust)

Akrapovic Slip-on:

I prefer the Supersprint Race exhaust. Sounds louder than stock, but I think the Akrapovic Slip-on is a bit too quiet... The Akrapovic saves weight about 30lbs. over stock, but costs $ 1,000.00 than the Supersprint Race

I am doing this for sound improvement, none of these exhausts will yield more than 3-5hp improvement

What do you think ?

Have you heard of drone? Most race exhausts have drone, the Akra, although quieter isn't droney. It's something you have to experience to determine your tolerance.

Can't go wrong with either, but I'd say the Supersprint is more aggressive. The Race system adds that extra level at the top range.

not a fan of the akra, I would say the Supersprint or if your willing to spend the money look for a valve system (evolve or kressig)

Thanks for all the replies

Akra slip on: who has it ? is it too quiet ? can you hear the difference over stock exhaust not only during cold start, but also during driving ?

Supersprint race: judging from the videos, it sounds quieter than Remus race and definetely quieter than Eisenmann race -- I know Supersprint from other cars and the quality is superb and not too loud

if you are judging from the video, that might be tricky. I would try to get a in person hear of a car with the exhausts you are interested in.

New video next Sunday If you have good subwoofer/speakers, you will hear the drone on mine, between 1200rpm-2000rpm. Sounds surprisingly like when its in my car on my speaker set up.

Remedy, drive out of that range or be very gentle. Then its fine.

I'll keep you posted

SS sounds amazing and does not DRONE!!!

But mine also started to fall apart as well as others on this board. For a very $$$ setup, not really acceptable.

Hey

You can read up extensive information regarding the E9x Supersprint exhaust offerings at our Research & Labs Labs article:
http://supersprintlabs.com/portfolio...bonus-headers/

The racing rear mufflers were designed as an aggressive sounding axle-back system for the 6 speed manual sedans and coupes. Due to their aggressive sounding nature, they cannot be TUV approved and will be louder than the Akrapovic. A more direct sound comparison would be with our Sport version.

The ideal configuration for an aggressive sound and very little drone is our new F1 Race mufflers. We integrated a “Helmolthz” resonator into the mufflers’ internals, which gives us the ability to reflect and cancel some frequencies depending on the structure of pipes and chambers. The F1 Race mufflers reduce the rpm range and the decibel levels of the drone and also give an intoxicating sound at high RPM!

You can read up more on the F1 race in Carlos Morr's review:
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=844273

As always, you can fit any of the Supersprint exhausts with tips finished in chromed, black chromed, satin black or satin silver.

In regards to welds breaking with hangers, we have revised the hangers and the situation has been resolved. If any current Supersprint customer is experiencing these issues, it will be covered under warranty

New video onboard. Take a listen Hope you like

Does anyone else's pop like mine??

Zoom H1 mounted between the exhaust.
You really need some good 2.1 speakers (to replicate the bass/drone) / good good headphones to get the most out of the recorded sound.

Had some doubts about the SS Race compared to OEM mod / xpipe mod.
But after this, hearing it from the outside. I think I'm finally settled on this, for now!

Personally for the money I don't think Akra is all that. It hardly sounds like anything for that matter. I don't get the appeal? Akra Evo might be a different story but for a slip on... buy something else.

That Supersprint sounds great. I love the way it pops and burbles. My old VW r32's flapper modded stock exhaust used to make the same glorious noises.

I have Akra slip on and it's much better than stock at both cold start and driving. Amazing sound and will recommend Akra anyday. Haven't compared against SS so can't comment on their performance.

See if you can find anyone in your area with Akra and SS, then judge the real thing rather than via videos.
