It's about halfway down the door, where the door meets the buckle that's mounted on the doorjamb. If you press that latch in, it will lock in that position and the window will pop up because the car will think the door is closed. Just close the door very gently after that to avoid damaging the window or the latch.

I used the guy my BMW dealer sources out to do all their tint, but going directly through him the price was $195 installed.

Take it to them or some other shop that will cost half the price. I'm thinking if I do it somewhere else and I have a problem with my windows rolling up or down one day, theyll blame it on the tint not being done by them. Therefore voiding the warranty on the window.
I had our Benz done by the dealer they added $415- plus tax to the bill. Mid last year all I did ask them who did the work, Then I went there with my M3 and had it done for $245- plus tax it took 3 hours to finish the job.

I would find out who your dealer is using and then get them to give you a price. I think the $400- they gave you is fairly high.

Crazy to see how much people charge for tint on the west coast. 130$ here.

Nope. If it was used when I got my tint then nobody mentioned it. It's also possible that the tint referenced in that thread was too thick or something. In any case, I never came across it doing research on other 3 Series tint jobs. I'd say ask a good tinter about it and if he says you don't need it, then if he's got a good reputation, trust him -- after all, good tint jobs have lifetime warranties on their work, so if it does scratch you should be entitled to a free replacement job. Good luck!

I doubt you will have any warranty problems. Make sure they dot-matrix shows through on the sides and that they go up to the top of the glass.
Same here.

That doesn't stop some people. But Llumar makes a product called Air Blue which is almost completely clear (80%) yet rejects 50% of infrared; people have compared its blue tinge to the way Mercedes AMG windshields look from the factory, so I can't imagine it causing a problem with the cops. There doesn't seem to be a lot of information out there about it, but I'm thinking about getting it done with the hot Texas summers around the corner. The only potential issue is that in Texas, registration and inspection stickers go on the windshield, plus I have an apartment parking sticker, so I'd have to leave a corner area untinted for those; I'd have to see whether that aesthetic would bother me.
AirBlue is pretty much totally transparent. The only distortion would be if you were say standing at the passenger fender looking at the driver side A pillar. It does keep the car A LOT cooler inside.

Sounds like a b u l l s h i t east coast issue. Hawaii, Washington $150 bucks and Oregon and Alaska $200.

Dealers must love you if all it takes is a ~$200 tint job to take their deal .

But sounds like you're negotiating by payment.

OP why not post in the regional section of a BMW forum for recommendations or reach out to your local CCA chapter.

my mobile tinter guy charged me 150 for limo all the way around and removal of my original scratched tint. $400 would only be the case if it were huper optic.
