Going away for the winter...

Well, yesterday was the last day of driving my car for the season. Looking forward to detailing and modding over the winter. How many others are storing their cars for the winter this early?

Mine is my only car and I drive it all year round in all conditions. I just put the winter rubber on this week. Given the traction losses this time of year and the increased road debris, I do see the perk to having a different winter driving option. What will you be driving now?

Never understood the idea of completely storing the car for the winter. I drive it through the winter on non-snow days. Don't think i could stay that long without driving it.

True but I guess it depends where you are. We don't get salt here throughout the winter, only couple of days before and after the snowfall is expected. I also make it a point to hose down the underside for all my cars weekly.

Totally agree. I drove my leased M3 through the winters but once I bought my 13 that was it. No way. They throw so much crap on the roads here, salt, sand, rocks the front end of my leased car was totally pitted after two winters. Rocks chips in the hood, it was trashed. Plus all of that salt is corrosive to your suspension parts. If I leased the car then yea I'm driving it all day through the winter but not on a bought car.

Agreed...yes and no,because last winter we had temp. - 19 ° Celsius !
When you hose dow underside of the car with temp. like this ,you will have a glacier with 4 wheels
Also...doors,trunk,hood will freeze..

Yes, road salt and sanding trucks that pelt out sand like a machine gun. I'm not so worried about the traction if I had snow tires, I'm more concerned with clearance. When it snows and if I don't stay ahead of the plows, I'll end up with snow piles 2+ feet high at the end of my driveway. Plus where I live, it's kinda rural so many of the back roads don't get plowed that great or frequently and you really do need awd.

As for what I'll be driving- Jeep Wrangler. Tons of fun and actually look forward to driving it in snow storms and heading to the slopes.

Clean car!

I'm in Boston as well and I won't be putting mine away. I drive it year round. This weekend is probably a good opportunity to swap on my winter wheels before it gets too cold out. To deal with the salt I just try to wash it once a week and make sure I rinse the undercarriage.

Unless snow is already falling I wouldn't consider storing. I'd have to see snowflakes first but I do understand trying to keep road salt away from that sweet ride!

My M3 will be in the garage, as I am going away in Jan until May and won't be driving at all.
good thing that I have a garage to store the car, will do a good wash, oil change, tire pressure and ask my family to start up the car once a week for 10~15 minutes.
