Do you keep a towel there all the time? Or do you remove it right after a track day? Is there any potential harm if the towel is left there?

I'm so glad someone started this thread. I've been looking at doing a track day come summer time with my car, but wasn't sure of any issues to look out for. My car has 35,xxx miles on it and hasn't been tracked, as far as I know.

No issues but getting a track only car now...

I have four track sessions under my belt. I bought carbotech pads which held up beautifully in the very track temps and never had to slow down for fade, they are really noisey on the street. My Yoko Neova AD08's put the power down and held up great. No mechanical issues and I want to keep it that way thus I am getting spec Boxster for track fun. I will feel way better with a 6 point harness and a full cage to keep me intact if something bad happens.

I have about 25 track days and 30,000 miles and other than the power steering fluid overflow issue everything is fine. I have been happy with the AP brakes other than going through pads fast - I'm still using the Mintex Extreme pads.

why does the power steering fluid leak? Where is it leaking from? It appears it's a "spill" rather than a "leak" (i know semantics) Is this a big deal or not?

Can someone take a pic of the zip tie/ shop towel fix?

thanks, looking to track it for the first time this summer, I want to make sure I'm monitoring all potential wear items properly.

Part number 1 in this diagram is the power steering fluid reservoir. It can be found in the engine bay on the passenger side, just in front of the coolant expansion tank. When the power steering fluid gets hot, it can seep out of the reservoir cap.

What xchosun1x is suggesting is that if you tie a shop towel around the filler cap area, it can absorb seeping fluid and keep the bay a bit cleaner.

AE performance is working on a fix for this. It happened plenty of times in my car, happens with their car as well. Anyone driving fast knows about this.
So whatès the fix for this...

Im pretty sure I experienced this on hard braking last week and I was wondering if my brake fluid was not properly bled.

Hmm, this happened to me again last weekend at Fontana. Anyone has solution for it?

120 autocross laps and 22,000 miles, with stock brakes:

Power steering: No leak.

Brakes: No problems, but will go to a street/performance pad next season in hopes of gaining a little more initial bite.

Engine: No issues.

Bushings & Subframe: No issue. However, I'll be putting the 'vert rear sway bar on my coupe over the winter and I plan to replace bushings while the subframe is dropped.

I've autocrossed various cars for decades and never had a "failure" or problem related to AXing the cars, other than accelerated tire wear.

13 track days this year (3rd year of ownership). did a lot less track days in my first two years of ownership.

power steering fluid needs to be topped up from time to time. usually check this every 3 or 4 track days.

engine temps get a little warm on the track but never went into limp mode.

changed oem brakes to stoptech BBK this year. running stoptech's oem street performance pads and Ate Blue fluid. have no complaints with this set up so far... seems like the street performance pads are sufficient for my skills at this point in time.

i usually need to add 0.5 qrts of oil in between oil changes. nothing too serious.

getting another set of dedicated track rims next year, probably the ARC-8s

I guess it is track-dependent - I had it on WGI, was exactly as others described, but never had it on Mosport, and I drive at Mosport much harder with more pad wear (home track). I thought I boiled fresh Castrol SRF at WGI, but brake flush shown no signs of anything wrong with the fluid - looked like new, no air.

So what's up with the fix?

On the topic - tracking the car from time to time over 2 seasons with absolutely no issues other than spilling over power steering fluid and the brake issue mentioned before (but that does not happen outside of the track). It's a very robust car!

You'd have to call Casey at AE Performance and ask him what they did for the race car. The brake boost assist system pulls vacuum when you exceed a certain level resulting in an inconsistent pedal. They were working on delete and do not know at this point if they finished with it.

At VIR it happened a lot, high speed 145+ ...

Not a big deal. The system is designed to do this. If you look at your Power Steering cap, you will see a small pin size hole. The "leak" exits from the hole when the fluid overheats. Another quick fix that I've seen a couple of times is to put a sweat band around the cap (motorcycle brake reservoir style).

Which Ti plates and pads are you using? Have you seen any trouble with the track pads causing undue wear on the OEM rotors?

At some point soon, I'm planning to upgrade to Motul 5.1 and Goodrich ss lines. I've also run Hawk HP+ pads in the past successfully, but still want to know what you guys suggest for the track (I assume that you use the stock pads for the street).

Had my right rear wheel bearing replaced a few weeks back as it was making a loud clicking noise.
