I've only seen information that it will not outperform the M3, was on the 1addicts forum I think. The 1 coupe is pretty portly at 3400lbs. 11 Mustang GT is 100lbs more with 80 more hp. If they hold to the plan of 330hp, they are going to need to shed quite a bit of weight with the 1M to get it close to the M3.

So is the 1M really 330hp? Or more likely is it really 360+ that is: A) power understated by BMW and/or B) running a really conservative tune? Obviously there is no real way of knowing that until about this time next year when folks are actually driving the car short of some inside information! But looking at BMW's recent history I tend to believe the 1M is going to bit more than advertised.

C'mon that's a ridiculous statement.
Do you remember what everyone said about the e9X body style when it came out? Remember the Pontiac jokes?

Of course I might change my story whenever I actually get to drive a production 1M, but am I the only one who would rather have an E46 M3 over a 1M based on the info available now? I still miss my E46 sometimes...

I have been saying that for a long time.
7000 rpm redline Snail-paced piston speeds Turbo lag Vaccum cleaner sound When I drove an E46 M3, it felt worlds different from my M-tuned 330 CI ZHP. The power deliver, sound, throttle response, attitude, demeanor was completely different. Now the difference between a 135 M and 1-M is ridiculously marginal. Bye bye M. You shall be missed. Quote:

Any idea on price yet?
I'm just thinking you can already change out the 135 suspension arms to the M3 arms, get some coils and tune it to 400+HP pretty easily now and it doesn't break the bank either, so I don't know why the 1addicts guys are so excited. You do get the fender flairs with the 1M.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

its going to be $50K with any type of options on it. you would seriously take a new BMW and mess with it so you can haggle with dealership on warranty issues when the HPFP or whatever else breaks on the N54. for the money one of these costs, i would totally rock an E30 M3 in all its boxy, lightweight, and revy S14 happiness. That was actually a real descendent of the M1 since they just chopped two cylinders off the block and put it in a tiny E30.

I have a feeling it will slot closer to the 335is than the M3.
Too close to the M3 in performance and they'll cannibalize a ton of M3 sales. Given equal performance, I'd definitely go with the 1 over the 3 for the price alone. |

I have friends with both e92 M3's and 135i's. Just because you think the 135i/M1 is ugly, doesn't mean it won't tear the track up.

I6 - never a V6.
The new M3 is supposed to have the same twin-twin scroll N55 engine that is going into the M1, just higher output. We need wait and see what's going on. The reports from C&D contradict what Scott26 has been saying all along about the engine and output. I wonder if BMW made a change in the plan recently and decided to keep the N54 motor in the M1 (adding the PPkg instead, aka 335is, etc.)

i love all the people preaching about the M being a true motorsports car, yet (most) have never tracked the M they drive, or never actually driven it in any for of motor sport. so if you never race it, is it an M? or just a badge?
i personally cant wait for the turbo M3. i'll definately be getting a turbo M. the current V8 is somewhat quick, but not even close to as fast as it should be. not to mention it gets like 1970's level of fuel economy. it does look sweet though...
