s65 engine rod bearing service.

Hey guys I was wondering if any of you know a local shop that would do the s65 engine rod bearing service? I got quoted 1,600+ from a shop in California but that is way too far and I wouldn't have the time to wait. Any of you guys have any suggestions? And thanks in advance!!!

Choose wisely, this is not an area where you want to take any shortcuts.

This thread should shed some light into the process involved, as well as show some oil analysis reports matched with bearings for you to base your decision upon. If you are able to make the drive to SoCal, we have done a number of these and have plenty of experience.

I am curious about this too, but I don't know of any shops in the NW that have done this service.

I have 36k miles on my 08, switching to Mobile 1 0W-40 in the next week or two, I'm not too worried about any catastrophic failure right now. I do want to get a blower in the next year or so, at which point I would want to do the service.

I have an 08 with 50k and I wanna do the blower as well. I haven't heard of any shops here that have done this so hopefully we can get some other locals to chime in

just ordered an ESS 550 kit slightly used for an amazing deal, but still comes with full warranty.. maybe I should get to those bearings sooner

Our lead tech was a former BMW of Seattle technician for several years, he can definitely do any OEM service work. Email your car info (model and year), the engine bearing service needs to be done, contact phone number, and we'll shoot you back a quote with labor + parts.

At that point you can schedule with us if everything sounds good!

Any quality mechanic can change rod bearings. Anyone who has ever built an engine has done rod bearings. This isn't some top secret procedure working on an alien space craft. Shipping your car 1000+ miles to have the bearing service done is ludicrous. I bet the odds on your car being damaged in shipping is more likely than something going wrong with having a local shop do the bearing service. I can't understand why this community tip toes around this rod bearing "issue" as much as it does.

Remember folks... EAS (no offense intended, you guys do great work) had to do this the first time at one point. I bet that guy didn't freak out at the fact that they hadn't done it before. A good tech is a good tech. Find a good local shop and they can do it. Sheesh.

Yes, but as goes for anything, someone who has done it many times before on the same motor/car, can often do it faster and potentially charge less. Putting a stripped engine upside down in front of someone is different than doing it while the engine is still in the car. They know what obstacles to overcome and aren't learning on the fly. They might even have better insight into what parts work better or not vs trying whatever they can get and hoping it works.

Also the original question was if they had done one before, not if they 'can', I'm sure alot of people can.

But, I do agree shipping a car 1000s for miles for this service is stupid. But at the same time, people are looking for piece of mind doing this as preventative maintenance, everyone has different levels of comfort, so I see nothing wrong with it if they prefer to take steps to make themselves feel better even if they seem useless to others.

I agree tdott I would like to find a shop that has done it a handful of times because they can get it done in a timely manner since they have probably seen the obstacles and know what to do. But I also agree with the both of you that shipping a car to EAS is costly and might get damaged more but it is a peace of mind that can help people sleep at night better.
