Going to NorCal
Hey guys. I'm going to NorCal next weekend to meet up with my friend who's up there now. First time going up to central/northern California. Just wondering if there's any outstanding roads or scenic places that I should check out while on my trip? I've decided to take a 3 day break from everything, and I just want to relax, drive some great roads, and take a look at some beautiful scenery and/or locations. Thanks guys.

By the way, might as well put my destination up in case there's any local meets or anything there, my destination is apparently San Jose. He finally gave me his address.

Besides Fisherman's Wharf and Haight Street in San Francisco, if you are in the South Bay area (San Jose, Campbell, etc...) give the local twisties a quick drive.
This route should only take an hour at most and takes you from downtown Saratoga (the 76 there has race gas if you need it) to Alice's Restaurant and STP. Great restaurant to stop by for some fantastic gourmet burgers and a nice spot to check out the local driving enthusiast and motorcycle scene. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...,0.617294&z=11 From here you can take Highway 84 out to the coast. Head North on Highway 1 to Half Moon Bay or South to Santa Cruz (local beach town/tourist spot/hippy gathering). Downtown Santa Cruz has some great Sushi if you're into raw fish. Mobo Sushi is one of my favorite joints there. If you're really in the mood to drive in this area, take Pescadero from 84 to Stage road. This route will get you back on 84 which you can take out to the coast. Just as a reference, ordered from technical twisties to sweeping twisties: Stage Road, Pescadero, Hwy 9, Hwy 84, Skyline/Hwy 35. |

Those roads are awesome! I use to live on those roads when I was up north. But please be careful for both cyclists and motorcyclists. There are stupid drivers as well as motorcyclists that ride up there, especially on weekends. It's best to go on weekdays.

I just tried the PencilGeek route right now, awesome stuff. The scenery was gorgeous, and the roads were a little rough and unsmooth, but very entertaining. Thanks Pencil!
I'll put up some shots later. Time to take a break and then try out some more of these suggestions. |
