Subaru STI Hatch vs Mitsubishi Evolution MR

I'm getting my wife either of these cars to replace her corolla. I'm not sure which one to choose, and both seem to spec out pretty similar. The interior on the Lancer looks a little cheap, but i suppose the sti does too when you compare it to a bmw.

which would you choose and why?

Your wife who currently drives a Corolla is going to be getting a sportier car than you have? Interesting....

Imo, if the interior is important than I would go with neither car since they both have pretty cheap interiors. Well, aside from the seats which are sooo comfy.

I would ask my wife which one she wanted...

I personally would choose the STI because it is a bit more livable and supposedly has a better interior than the Lancer (actually I would get a 2011+ WRX non-STI to save some money). A Corolla to either of those is a massive bump in performance...

If the interior worries you, you could consider a GTI or a A3 to get a better interior while sacrificing some performance.

STi. Better AWD system and a stronger drivetrain.

I dont think your wife would like either of those cars. Many men who enjoy driving fast, sporty cars complain about these cars as daily drivers. As mentioned above, what about a vw gti? Or vw golf r if you need awd (see you are in phx don't know why you would really need it). They will be more livable on the street, leaps and bounds better on the interior, though not as fast. Worth taking a look though.

EVO EVO EVO. Im biased. I had a X GSR, but sold it for a dd 335i sedan. The interior was a bit cheap, but thats not what I bought it for. It had the SSS package so it had a rockford fosgate sound system and nav. For an evo that was very luxurious. Sti's are nice as well. Never owned one though so cant help you too much there. I still have my evo ix mr and will keep it around forever. One of my favorite all time cars.

That's quite a shift in direction. Sort of like saying that my wife currently drives a Lexus RX400h (she doesn't, thank all deities) and I'm debating a 911 GT3 4.0 or an Ariel Atom for her. Has she said she wants a very quick car with a cheap interior and a flinty ride that every teenager with a Civic Si will try to race?

Well this will be everybit as much my car as hers, so the performance aspect is more for me. We need awd so we can hit up the mountains when it snows up north... with that being said, I need to like the car everybody as much as her so we keep it and don't trade it in for a new car a year down the road.I now people are decided on the issue due to loyalty, but is there really a better suited option vs. The other...

I've driven the Evo 8 and both generations of STI's. The EVO is more involving to drive, the steering is better, the handling leans more towards oversteer and the seats are better. However they all seem to burn oil, they feel cheaper and there's just something that feels more substantial about the Subies.

Another note, I borrowed my buddy's 06 STI for about a month, and got between 7 and 11 mpg city on multiple tanks of gas. Keep in mind that maintenance wise, neither is a Corolla either. With Brembo brakes, a full set of rotors and pads can easily run into four figures.

Does your wife drive stick? I know the Evo can be bought in automatic.

I'd suggest the same if it wasn't so damn overpriced.

I agree with the Golf R recommendations. Still sporty, nicer interior, and if hp is a concern, it can be easily tuned to ~315hp.

Does she even need that much HP, and more importantly, can she handle/drive it?

after having an 08 sti and dealing with the reliability issues and Subaru's TERRIBLE warranty service i'd say evo all day long! honestly if i had bought an evo instead of the the sti i would probably still have it. the 07+ sti's run dangerously lean from the factory to pass emmisions and ALOT of them burn piston ringlands. and subaru will look for any reason they can not to cover you.

i bought mine at 18k miles and it spun a bearing at 20k. fought to get them to replace the motor which they barely did. i said "to hell with this car" traded it in still on the rack and the new owner burnt a ringland at 1500 miles on the brand new crate motor(supposidly properly broke in)

everyone i know that has had an evo has loved it and regreted selling... cant say the same for sti owners! the car isnt so bad pre-07 but subaru's service sucks no matter the year!

i'm surprised about all the golf r comments... hard to swallow the price with the reduced performance.

i think we may shoot for the evo... sure is a sexy little ride

So if you want the EVO why don't you drive it and give the missus your BMW?

I'd say the Subaru has a better interior, but the Evo definitely has a better AWD system with the AYC, especially if you get the MR.

I've always loved Evos and wanted one ever since they came to the US, but I just bought a '12 WRX limited. Leather, heated seats, sunroof, nav, etc.
