I wouldn't know at all.. honestly, I was already starting to save $$ to change the bearings down the line.

I doubt there's really a way to find this out right?

Been contemplating calling the place and asking for the previous owner but I don't even know his/her name so it'll be tough

I do know however this car was a PA car and it was probably driven mostly highway. I assume the previous owner just used the dealer recommend 10W60 that most of us use.
I see...
Thank you !

This could be also very interesting knowing about the Worldwide bearing problems of the S65 engine and the never ending dicussions about the best oil to use for the S65...
But I don't know if that's possible for you to chase after previous owner with the question what oil was used ?
Thanks in advance..
I don't think that would matter to be honest. We've seen plenty of cars fail with 10W60, and 0W40, while in my opinion helps, it doesn't 100% fix the issue anyway. He just happened to have a car that the tolerance was probably on the big side. He just lucked out really

100% agreed with your comment
Look what I was writing earlier today about tolerance => "#2246" on this page http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...8#post17407288

I was completely surprised Blackstone sent me an email with my analysis report just now but here it is @121K:

Judging from the comments in the analysis.. it seems like my engine is running fine? Let me know what you think.
Based on flash point, additives and viscosity, it looks like Castrol Edge Pro that was run for a long time or had some lighter oil added as make-up

Got another report done, looks like bearings should not be a concern (knock on wood)

NOTE: The oil last measured was the Liqui Moly 10W60 which included 2 track events. Very happy with the oil. I switched to 0W-40 for the winter which based on my experience to date was the right choice.

MILEAGE: 47,300 (As of 2/23/2015)

My first analysis. Looks pretty good considering I logged 12k miles since my last oil change. Just switched to the new BMW Twin Turbo oil. Will post my results after my next oil change.

So just received my first Blackstone report in today. 39k on the vehicle and 11k on the oil. The vehicle had 10.5k already on the oil when I bought it which had me a little worried...but all looks good (I think)! Any concern with the Molybdenum at all? What does that indicate?

Molybdenum is a wear additive in the oil itself. This is obviously directly proportional to the additive package of your oil, in your case TWS. It's not directly correlated to engine wear and/or health (in most cases that is). It is nothing to be concerned about or even pay attention to accept for the fact that will change based on the type of oil you run.

Hello everybody,
as recommended I sent an oil sample to Blackstone Labs.
Please comment on it and help me to decide whether I should replace my rod bearings now, or wait for one year.
It is an 10/2007 with 72.000km (45.000 mls)

So this is my second oil sample and I'm a little worried about the Lead content. It didn't go up too much from the last oil change, only 1ppm, but still 24ppm is a little too high. The second oil sample was actually ran to 7300miles vice 6500miles. Luckily the copper looks to be low enough and that brings me a little comfort. This time I used the new BMW M Twin Power Turbo 10w-60 oil, but next time I'm definitely going to give Mobil or Redline's 0w-40 a try, and see how that goes. I will be running this new oil for only 4k before I make the switch then send another sample.

Think it was you with the ten thumbs ?
Your rapport looks perfect to me , and I'm sure there is no need to change your bearings .
I would go for another Backstone sample with next oil change , and when that rapport is the same....Then you know it for sure !

Your car is a 2011 model (no lead rod bearings) ..so I am not sure what else you can look at here

Thank you for your comment.
You donīt see a problem with the slightly increased wear metals?

You're welcome .
No,because we saw rapports from M1 with higher levels of iron .
BTW...Iron is not involved with our bearings (only lead and copper) so you are really good to go !
Last year I had an oil change from BMW/Dealer with Castrol/Edge , and I really believe...hear, and feel my S65 runs a lot smoother .
So maybe next oil change you should try the same thing...
So Thomas , "Sehr gut" !

Hi guys - just got my first Blackstone report back from the first oil change of my ownership - 08 E92 with ~17k miles. Any idea why the raised numbers for magnesium & boron? Is this anything to be alarmed about? The Blackstone guys seem to think everything looked good but there's no further info on why those numbers might be raised. I live in LA and use 91 octane gas exclusively. Thanks!
