Would you buy used tires on Ebay?

So I see companies on Ebay have a ton of used tires for big discounts.

I wouldn't buy tires at 40% tread left but some of these companies have 70% and 80% life on the OE tires that come with the M3. Brand new they run $379 each but you can find the same OE tires on Ebay for $100-$120 each from companies that only sell used tires.

If these tires don't have dry rot or pataches, wouldn't this make sense? What am I missing? Id rather go through 3 tires with 70% life than 1 tire with 100% life and spend the same amount.

Can anyone see why this wouldn't be a good idea?

dont buy used tires

...there is a reason the tires were pulled off with so much thread, generally there was a good reason.

You risk having tires with uneven tread wear etc...considering they probably came off a different car, due to different wear patern you are at the very least compromising ride quality, and possibly handling & overall safety (someone wanna chime in on the handling/safety? ...as its just my opinion, and those are like A**hol*s...everyones got one

i think if you can afford to buy an M3, you can afford to buy some new tires for it.

Unless they were brand new take offs on the wheels i wouldnt bother, I'm sure there are some deals out there but shipping isnt cheap and why take a chance. A lot of people's idea of 70% left is different.

If you were selling, trading or turning a lease in soon and your tires are junk it may be worth a shot though.

With used tires, it's all up to how you feel, and you need to do a visual inspection before you pay. For instance what if it came from your buddy's E92 M3? I would say it's a different circumstance don't you think?

I think the question is, will you buy new tires from ebay?

they have the same name brand tires you see in stores, but at fractions of the price, how do they do it?
Have they been sitting in the warehouse for 2 years or what? I notice a lot are discontinued lines or discontinued sizes for current lines.

take a look at this package. Brand new and its the set up for the 19 inch rims. $725 and includes shipping. Comes out to $181 per tire shipped.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/245-3...fTruckQ5fTires

Since they are new, what problems could there be that I wouldn't know about?

Im not a tire guy so I don't know if these are even any good. Any info would be helpful

Thanks guys

^ exactly my question, i think this size or line is discontinued and it's excess inventory from another tire wholesaler.

I have bought several tires used off of Ebay and had no issues. Sometimes they may have had a patch, but patches don't bother me. As long as they have 70-80% of tread life left no issues. I did this before on a lease turn in drove the car for 6 mos. and had absolutely no issues.

I would never touch ebay for tires. You never know what people have done and how those (used) tires have been treated.

Some people replace both tires when one of the tire gets a nail and don't want to patch it even though it is completely repairable. Hence you may end up getting a set of 305/30/19 PS2 N1 tires for $350 when one of them new is almost $500.00 yet they still have 7-8/10 tread left. Like I said bought a total of 4 used tires off of Ebay and have had no issues. Have their been issues, I'm sure there have..but if you research who you are dealing with and read the reviews you can do OK.

When I sold the Porsche I had found 2 Pirelli PZero N1 tires for my 997S that had 80% tread left but the left one had a patch that was right in the middle of the tread. I bought them and had them on the car for 6 mos. before I sold it. Buyer was aware and he didn't care that there was a patch in one tire. Go price out 2 Pirelli PZero N1 tires at 305/30/19 and see how much they cost. New they are over $470 a piece..I paid $300 for both.

I wouldn't go there. I had worn out control arm busings on my 2005 e46 zhp and the net was some accelerated wear on the inside and outside edge of the PS2s that I was running. You couldn't really see the wear even putting the tire side by side with a new one. However, the worn tires wouldn't track straight after the new control arm bushings were installed. Once I was talked onto putting 2 new PS2s on, problem solved.

The point is that I could have sold these tires as used since they looked fine, but anyone putting them their car would not have been happy. Consequently, best to stay away from used tires.

I still have them, if anyone still wants them, I'll sell them to you at a really good price.

a few years ago I bought two "almost new" tires for my Z4. Sidewalls and tread were beautiful... then I saw the plugs from repairs.

Two $300 tires for $100 but never again.
