I use 5th very rarely, but if I did more highway cruising around 65 that's probably where I'd be.
It's fun to drive at these speeds vs gear.

anything above 30mph I'm in sixth.

guess what gear the DCT is in when you coast along at 30mph.

Just a thought.

When I'm trying to save gas () I up shift early but I feel the engine lugging at 6th even at 40mph. I cruise in 5th if I'm staying around 35-45mph but once I hit 50 I'll shift into 6th.

I'm guessing DCT will be in 6/7 at 30 but wouldn't it downshift if you're trying to speed up?

I would say generally don't drop below 2k. Upshift, it's totally up to you. On the street I shift around 4k or 5k, and depending on how much fun I want to have I'll go redline

I too also noticed I use 5th very rarely. I still shift to 5th as a formality before going into 6th

I am so use to street car with non-linear powerband that I even put a sticker reminder near the dashboard. Copy of this diagram is on a visor.

This diagram looks a lot like a 1LR-GUE powered Avalon

You're doing it wrong, the torque doesn't drop until 7k, so you up shift then. For performance driving you should downshift to match no lower than 3700.

My car hasn't been in 5th gear for months.

During performance time, YES.
Street driving at 35MPH speed limit, 3700RPM is enough.

Yeah, i am planning to spend $200,000 upgrades on 1999 Avalon. It will be faster than 911 Turbo S.

You mean 1LR-GUE?
It is a wanna be RVX-0x V10 engine which TOY-YODA and Yamaha developed.

Keeping the rev too low is counter productive as it can take significantly longer to reach normal operating temperature. If you keep it "well below" 3k except for summer the engine may take up to 15 minutes to fully warm up whereas if you shift just below 3k it may only be 8-10 minutes which is less time running the engine cold.

Why is everyone driving like old ladies. If your warming it up that's one thing but normal driving rarely would I shift below 5k and often higher. Once on the freeway by all means lug around in 6th.
