Trade e90 335 and 997S for e92 M3 - Crazy???
I currently have a 2009 M-Sport 335i sedan as my daily driver and a 2007 997S coupe for fun. I am seriously contemplating considering selling them both and getting a new M3 loaded DCT coupe to use as my daily driver. I just don't drive the 997 often enough (7,500 miles in 2-1/2 years) and it sits in the garage depreciating while I pay property tax, insurance and services. Test drove the M3 a few weeks ago and loved it - all the practicality and comfort of the 335 with the performance and excitement of the Porsche. I'm about to pull the trigger. Am I crazy?

Will you also save a lot of money by doing this? If so, I would. If you can get out of one daily driver what you're trying to get out of having to own two cars plus save money, why not?? I would buy a pristine, used M3 though to offset the depreciation on those other cars when you sell them. I've done this many times.

i think you already have the answer. you said you test drove the m3 and felt it is as comfy as your 335 while deliver the performance of the porsche. then i say go for the m3. there is no point to have 2 cars and waste money with insurance and depreciation.

I have two sons under 11 and need an everyday car that they can fit in comfortably - The 911 rear seats are only suitable to double amputees. Plus a 911 and Connecticut winters don't really mix well. The RWD 335 with snows does quite well and I would expect the M3 to do the same.

Go for it...you'll never look back. I bought my first M3 in 1997 with a new E36 M3 4door sedan. I've had 5 M cars since that first one. It's very tough to go back to another brand of car. I'm totally spoiled in my 2009 M3 Coupe (kids all grown up) with DCT. It is a blast on the track.

Do it - you'll thank yourself every time you drive the M and every time you DON'T swallow insurance, registration, and depreciation on your second car.

I can't believe you are willing to lose so much $$$ in trading that Porsche and 335i for a M3. If anything, sell the 335i and buy an Accord and drive the 911 on the track or special occasions.

i drive my coupe all winter long no problem. If you are not using the Porsche, then I think it might be worth it. I wish I would have gotten the sedan.

I wish I had this problem you lucky bas_ard !!!
Seriously... go get the M !! (or the new Mustang 5.0 apparently they are the same..... ) also, how did the M3 you drove compare to the Porche for steering and all that.... what do you think you will lose going to the M compared to the P?

Now for a different take...
Swap the Porsche for coupe a convertible one (even "downgrading" to a Boxster S), so you'll get more wind/fun/action when you do use it. Or perhaps swap both for an M3 sedan/Boxster S combo.

Dump the 335 and get the M3. Keep the 997 of course. You'll regret selling it if you do. It's quite alright to only use it for fun. You need to [one day] be the old man in the neighborhood with the mint condition classic Porsche. And I speak from experience. I'm about to sell my Z4 M for a 997S. It'll be a long term keeper. And I won't kill it with useless miles either.

Yes, you're crazy. Take a few DE's from a local PCCA group to get the most out of your car, otherwise you may not know what you'd be missing.
