Acro slip on or MPE?

They both put out approx the same hp. Neither hardly has a drone from what I've read. Which would you choose and why? I'm specifically interested in feedback on only these two. Preferably from those who own one.

Thanks in advance!

I'm going to go ahead and try to protect you from the frenzy that may ensue at any moment. If you search for akrapovic and MPE you will find pages upon pages of comments on this site.

I will sum up what they will tell you:
hp difference is negligible.
sound is subjective.
since you're considering the akra slip on the real issue here is sound, not performance so you need to decide for yourself.

Some may say that the MPE is covered by warranty but I don't see how that's an issue for a simple axle back system. Both are high end, it's not like it's going to fall off when you hit a pothole. Moreover, if you find the right dealer they'll install the akrapovic system for you.

Oh, and I don't own either but I spent about 3 hours yesterday reading the threads to try to answer this exact question.

End result for me? I still have no idea. But, my SA at BMW has the Akra Evo system and the ESS tune and once I have the chance to hear it I'll make my decision.

Akro, much better looking on the car, plus you get the awesome blue tint if you drive your car like it wants you to.

Akra. Has no drone and sounds civil. Good for daily drive.
You can even get them with cf tips

There's a good reason BMW uses Akrapovic in a lot of their race cars.

I don't believe BMW or any other car maker is using the Akra slip on_on their race cars....... the op is choosing between the slip on & the MPE not the Akra Evo!

Between the Akra slip on & MPE I would choose the MPE...which I did & I love every minute of it! I find myself turning off the radio just to listen to the exhaust note!

MPE would get my vote but I have heard if you do an x-pipe/test pipes it becomes an unfriendly exhaust. My question comes as why just between these two exhausts there are so many exhausts available at a more attractive price point? If you don't mind spending the money why not get the evolve exhaust that way you have two exhausts just a click away? Eisenmann race sounds very good as well and even better with test pipes. Or you could go the other end of the spectrum and get the Megan exhaust. It sounds fantastic, great build quality/fitment, and one of the only decently priced exhaust available.

I'm looking for a quieter exhaust than my current AA slip on, and most importantly, with no drone. I have no interest in changing the other pipes. From what it seems the two I chose suits my needs.

MPE here. It has an exotic sound under 70% or more engine load between approximately between 3900-4900rpm. No drone.

I've heard Akra Evo in person, stationary revs. Bit too raspy for my liking. I don't think the Slip on would be that bad.

You definitely need to hear both in person. When I heard MPE/Akra Evo on youtube with relatively good speakers VS in person, it did not sound close.

I have to say I have heard the akra in person at the track and it sounds really good.

that said, I like the metallic howl of the MPE and for me, its by far my favorite exhaust sound. it has a very unique sound, sort of like if you combined the s65 and s54 sounds together.

I think the MPE is the exhaust that sounds the least like the rest of the exhaust offerings out there. its up to your personal discretion whether that is a good or bad thing

MPE or Akra......my 0.02c

Personally, I like the Akra, however decided to go for the MPE, as I wanted an OEM part, and preferred the sound, but sound is subjective to the listener, so that's your call. I will say this though (and it's probably more noticeable to me as I drive my car infrequently) the MPE sound has improved over the lat two thousand miles. I have heard this from other members, the sound "matures" with use, it actually sounds better over time than when new.

Another consideration for me was the "authorities". Where I live the police presence is intense, simply put there is a cop about every three miles, and these guys are aggressive and heavy handed. I am an old dude, most of my town is 35 or 25 MPH speed limit, and I use cruise control in town, all of the time, to avoid any type of police harassment. I will bet that any day now I will be pulled over because the MPE sounds magnificent when pulling away from a traffic light and getting into the revs a little. The fact that the MPE clearly has BMW stamped into the muffler tips will save my ass, as it is an OEM part, and the cop will not be able to harass me for "aftermarket muffler noise". This car is enough of a cop magnet, without making it louder, so consider this too before making your decision.
