Cable attached to the base of license plate bracket?

My apologies if this covered somewhere but my search yielded nothing. I have been trying to remove my front license plate bracket when I saw what looks like an electrical cable coming somewhere from inside the engine/under the car. Under the bracket, it goes into a black long rectangular box which I haven't attempted to open or remove.

Anybody with pointers to safely remove this bracket, assuming the cable is intended for something?

Pics? Did you buy the car used? Sounds like it may be a laser shifter.

Yeah, I bought her used. I can get pics when I get home but if it is a laser shifter wouldn't it be aimed forward? This one is obscured under the bracket.

EDIT: Thanks for the 'laser shifter' idea, I think you are spot on! A quick web search with your hint yielded the below escort link:

The rectangular transreceivers shown in the top-right corner of the pic is exactly what is mounted under my license bracket.

Problem now is to get to work with my V1?? Looks like it only works with Escort?
