Don't use Rain X products in your windshield washer tank.

I used Rain X, both pre-mixed and concentrated in my 2013 M3 coupe for about a year. This caused my wind shield washer tank pump to become clogged up with a thick goo-like substance which was too thick to be pumped and stopped up the pump. Dealer advised me this is very common problem with Rain X and a few other brands of washer fluid additives. I called my local dealer to see about maybe going back for service after I had problems there in the past and was advised it would be a week for an appointment. I then called Fields BMW South Orlando and was advised to "bring it on over and we'll take care of you". I did, they did! The mechanic (it's the little things sometimes) gave me the remainder of the BMW washer fluid additive which I thought was a nice gesture. This was my third visit to Fields BMW and I have been very pleased with all service received at this location.

Seriously? We need BMW-specific windshield washer fluid? Of COURSE it was necessary for them to design a system that would get clogged by "plebeian" brands. Windshield wiper fluid is an absolutely essential fluid, after all!

I don't even bother. I just wash the windshield at gas stations while I fill up. It's bad enough bug guts are all over the car, I don't need the washer fluid on my paint netting in the extra dirt/dust.
