OMP WRC Seat Installed! Woot! One more step towards a dedicated track car

This Saturday at the track, even though I did my best lap time ever, I was getting very frustrated with the stock seat and seat belt. Readjusting my body after every turn was very distracting.

So today I had the day off so decided to head down to 425 Motorsports here in Seattle to talk seats and harnesses. Well Dan Reiss the owner made everything easy for me. Within an hour I had a nice OMP WRC selected along with all the mounting hardware. I was happy supporting a local shop and Dan was great to work with.

Installed the seat this afternoon – everything lined up perfectly though the install itself took three hours to get everything aligned. I used the planted seat bracket and side mounts.

Also, the stock seat.. holy shit that thing weighs in at a million pounds!! bloody hell was it heavy..60lb I believe? I also took out the rear seats which also weighed in around 40lb.

I haven’t swapped the passenger side out because my wife will occasionally want to ride in the m3 and she will not get into a sport seat.

The harness arrives next week – I ordered a Schroth six point harness.

On the seat itself - The OMP WRC seat was a great choice. The materials used on it seem high quality and it fit me perfectly. It’s a little painful getting in an out but I don’t use the m3 for long drives, only for short office-home drives and then lots of trackdays so I should be okay.

Can’t wait to try this out on the track!

oh by the way... 1MOREMOD is going to flipout when he sees this thread!

Congrats! I have the OMP ARS in my car and it makes a night and day difference. No more bruised knees from pulling too many G's in the corner

haha thanks guys... I drove some twisties today to adjust the seat.. and chris you're right the seat was too high. I got rid of the sliders and adjusted it perfectly to my seating position, then bolted it in. So now it is truly a fixed seat.. its super low .. line of sight from my eye hits the lower 1/3 of the windshield.. With the slider there was a slight forward/back play in the seat which is now 100% gone.

Let me say.. this made a 50000% improvement. Here's what has improved - some of this is surprising to me:
- I felt much more connected to the car, I could feel every bump and I could feel all the subtle weight transfers... I think this will help me a lot at the track
- Ofcourse goes without saying that I was absolutely planted like a rock (even without the harness) - I could focus on driving not staying seated
- Which led me to be super confident in my turn ins..
- This is dumb and totally mental but I feel much more in control of the car, the car feels slightly faster .. I felt totally "one with the car" .. yeah its kinda silly but the car started to feel much more like a part of me..

all in all - this was the best money I've spent on my car in ages..

but one word in warning - this is really, truly only for track rats or those true hard core enthusiasts who truly enjoy hard driving.. those who live, dream and pursue that lap time and squeezing the last second out. not for posers unless you don't mind sacrificing lots of comfort and cushiness.

I saw your another post about Air bag error light. Now you changed the seat, is there a occupancy sensor under driver's seat?

so its the slider that makes the seat have to sit too high. good to know may skip that part. i want to be down about an inch from stock seat height is all. that way i can push forward as much as i like and still have head room.

I think the macht schnell base is lower than the planted base (I have the planted) so if you want to run a slider you may want to consider macht schnell (EAS)

is comfort level pretty bad? im driving around today and come to a stop and a bus is behind me. my brakes squeal twice as loud as the bus! starting to feel like race car. no interior so louder, brake squeal, still running numbers, no turning radius because of ducts, have to ramp in and out of driveway soon, camera and aim solo mounted in there, harness used all the time, feel like cops are gonna be on me! what a poseur.
